Hey guys,

I was going to look at a used trans from a guy I know. He got it (as spare parts) with a GN he recently bought. Previous owner says it was rebuilt and came out of another GN. I called the guy (before I drive over there) to get the numbers off of the tag...... except he says there is no tag on the passenger side of the tailshaft...... I am searching all over the site to help ID this trans and no luck......

Here are some numbers on the tranny:

62004R01799

4HP419928 (the first two or three numbers are hard to make out) (on drivers side pan rail)

8639224 (this is just below a tag on the drivers side... that says Hydramatic on it)

All these numbers don't look like anything I have read on the boards.....

What is this tranny.....??

He said it does have the corporate bell housing (dual pattern).

Any help would be appreciated......

Was going to look at the tranny maybe tonight....

It should be from a 1987 Regal from the HP VIN number.

Pontiac plant code and 1987 year should mean it's a Regal tranny.

Can't tell if it's from a turbo car however.

Could also be another G body cars tranny perhaps if they were also built in that plant.

Better pull the pan and check the valve body for the correct paint color.

Update

I went over to his house last night to look at some of his stuff before he put these items in the local trader paper. I pulled the pan. It appears to be a correct GN tranny. Valve body has "BR3" stamped in it with white paint...... and has yellow paint on the other side of the valve body with "A1" I think..... don't know if that is significant or not.... It has 2 pressure switches inside it too. It is however missing the wiring between the presure switches and the electric connector and the case. It was also mising the filter. I ended up getting it with a brand new set of sun visors, a set of 8445 heads (used of course) and a stock intake. I plan on sending the heads and intake off to have them ported so I minimize the amout of downtime when I get ready for some ported heads/intake.

What do you guys think? I ended up getting all of it for two bills. He owed me a "discount" kinda because I helped him work on his GN several times before he traded it.. and I never asked him for any money..... so he cut me a good deal.... I think....

it is a grand national core, enjoy it and if you choose to rebuilt it pick up our 200 page manual.
