This is my first time on this site, so hopefully I came to the right place. I have a '87 WE4. I'd like to know what I have to do with the belt to remove the A/C compressor. Will it mess up anything else? Do I need a idler pulley in it's place? I was also hoping someone had the recipe for a homemade adj. wastegate. Thxs.

You need an idler pulley to replace the A/C compressor because the one belt does everything.

To make an adjustable wastegate, you need a hacksaw, a 1/4-20 die and a 1/4-20 threaded coulpler (A buck for a few at Lowes) and a couple 1/4-20 nuts.

Cut the actuator rod in the middle, and then cut off about 1/4" from the longest side. Thread both pieces. Put on the jam nuts and assemble with the coupler.

Adjust to a length of about 5" to 5 1/4" (from the actuator face to center of hole) and this will get you close to factory boost setting. One full turn shorter is about 1 PSI of boost.
