I went to the track yesterdat looking for a mid 11 something. First pass off the trailer was a 11.99 @ 113 w/ 26 lbs of boost. That was after turning donw the boost a few turns on the rod, wow, what a differance the colder air makes. Thank god i was rich enuff and the motor was cold enuff.
The problem im haveing is a poping im getting goin down the track. Both MAF and LV8 drop down to squat and then come right back up. I put in new valve springs this past spring, new coil pack, battery, alternater.
After about 7 passes trying to tune the poping out, lower the boost down to 22 lbs, fatten it up to 840's on the o2. Same thing, i finally desided to put it on the trailer before i hurt it even worse.
Any idea on the poping ?? Could i have wiped out a set of valve springs so quick ?? I generally run in the 24-25 lbs range on 110 octane.
Any and all ideas apreciated

Thanks,
Craig

BTW, the rest of the day i was runnin in the 12.15 range w/ 1.6-1.8 short times. Obviously i need work in the suspension department, but thats another thead sometime.

Our MPH is close and I had this problem too.I tore my motor down recently and found 2 timing gear teeth gone and a half flat #3intake lobe gone.My valvesprings were stock though and also could have been the fault of it.

Have you checked all the simple things first? A simple bad plug gap can cause this. After getting an engine rebuild a while back my car did this and after chaging several things I checked the plugs. The gaps varied from @ .035 to .047. New plugs and the car ran great. BTW, I finally found this out after racing a Stang with several mods, popping the whole time and he still couldn't pull past me. This was in my old slightly modded 85 GN.

"Both MAF and LV8 drop down to squat "

This is classic MAF droput. You are flowing so much air that the MAF is freaking out the ECM. You either need a chip that ignores MAF dropout, or switch to a Translator and LT1/LS1 MAF.

It is dangerous as the pulsewidth can drop way down also and do nasty things to headgaskets or bearings or pistons. You get the idea...

The Translator is a good idea as it allows the use of the newer, more reliable, more available, more accurate MAF's.

Regards,
Eric
