On my way back from lunch today, I was starting to pull on to an interstate highway and my 87 GN almost died..started bucking like it was out of fuel..........I wasn't getting on it .............just normal driving to get up to speed to get on the freeway.....the "service engine" light came on...........as I tried to acclerate the boost guage was showing about 7 psi then would drop to 0..back and forth as I tried to accelerate.........then I started smelling gas............I made it back to work and checked under the hood....no visible signs of fuel leakage, no air intake blockage that would indicate blocked air intake... I thought I was out of gas but I have at least a half tank..This problem really has me puzzled........(I hope it will get me home in about 2 1/2 hours)

Anyway, anyone have any bailing wire and bubble gum fixes to check to get me home??? I don't have access to a scan tool or any diagnostic tools at work or home........I almost forgot.....I have an adjustable fuel pressure regulator and a fuel pressure guage on the fuel rail...........I was giving the car gas and noticed the fuel pressure guage dropping from about 40lbs to 27 (or so) as I revved the engine..............

HELP!! Please.....

Thanks guys,

Woody:confused:

Use a paper clip to diagnose what code your computer pulled. Bend the clip in half and stick one end into the top right hole in your aldl connector. Stick the other end of the clip in the hole to the left of that one. Turn your ignition to the "on" position. It should flash once, then twice. It will do this 3 times. Afterwards it will blink the numbered code that was given by your computer. 2 blinks, then 3 more mean code 23. Write back with your code and I can tell you what your problem is...... or one of 'em at least.:)

Sounds like a MAF going bad. While it's idleing, tap the MAF with a srewdriver handle or something similar and see if it stumbles.

i will second that...same thing happened to me...bad maf sensor...will cause the ses light to come on and make the car buck at normal acceleration and limit boost...also will throw the fuel off
