Sat morn pulled up to a stoplight after coming off a the highway (3 hour trip) and heard what sounded like a ratchet or deck of cards being shuffled when trans shifted.
New trans and convertor Pats 3k stall with maybe 5 k miles on it, new fluid less than 2k ago and looks just like it came out of the bottle and does not smell burnt, trans shifts just as it has since installed and does slip/flare/etc.

Convertor has lost L/U since this issue has arose and the noise is there and only lasts a second (just for a second then goes away) and then goes away when....
Free rev for idle in Park not neutral
When putting in drive from park or N
Coming out of reverse " "
Coming out of Drive " "
Everytime the tranny shifts into another gear while driving.
Quite at idle does not sound like PSi reg.
Coming form front of trans/TC area
I suspect the convertor internals being bad or the front planet/OD on the way out.
Loss of l/u (elec circuit is good) either due to convertor insides shot or trash form trans (whatever is dying) between L/U surfaces in the TC.
Chip does not have forced L/U at WOT nor is it on a switch.
Also drove the car today 80 or so miles most on highway and symptoms has not increased from what I can tell.

Input please. Thanx:confused:
Havent dropped the pan yet. Drove the car

I bet it the TC. Most likely time to yank it and tear it down.

This trans has been a nightmare and thought we had it fixed. Would be nice if it is just the convertor. Pan will tell when dropped.
Hopefully no copper colored/planet tell tell signs.
Any other opinions?

Pulled the mother back out.

Stator in the TC turns both ways:mad:  and wobbles all over the place!

Next...To the pan and see what else the diagnosis reveals

Pan had some metal dust and a small piece of white plastic?? Approx 1/16 by 1/16 in dimension.

But better than I thought fingers crossed.

Input shaft and OD planet looks good, 4th gear frictions/steels & pum p all looks great.

Turns out the TC had broken spring in the L/U mechanism and is being rebuilt.

Update.....its been several months
Had the TC tightened to 2400-2600. NOT locking at WOT and its running great. Car picked up alot especially in third.

Everyspring was broke in the L/U assembly and it now has a completely different stator and rotor design.

Steve and the crew at Pats are Top notch guys and stand behind their product no doubt.
