Help replacing wiper switch (inside coumn)

I replaced a faulty turn signal switch (87 GN) and in ther interim, I have somehow damaged the windshield wiper switch within the column. The stalk goes back in, but switch will not turn...and the wipers run constantly. I replaced the stalk with a new one, but same result. I'm assuming I need to replace the switch within the column. Anyone have any tips or hints on this.....or better yet....where to get a new switch assbly?

dose it go in all the way? could the wipers be on, and the handle not seating in the switch? I havent had this problem. I have replaced the turnsignal handle, and high low beam sw but not the wipers...yet!.

I've tried over and over...I have blinkers, high/low beams, but wipers stay on. ...shaft won't turn. The wiper selector on the stalk moves about 1/8 turn but does not affect the wipers.

Pull the lever out and make sure the tab that rotates with the wipers lines up with the notch in the switch before pushing it in all the way.

Well, I think the switch is definately kaput.......after some strong arm tactics, I can get the wipers to turn off/change speed at some funky locations...feels like it may be stripped out to some degree on the inside. My Haynes manual doesn't include the later models with the cruise/wiper stalk. Anyone got any tips on how to R&R this switch?

Well, this might help get you started. Although it is not directly repairing the wiper switch, it does give you a pretty good idea how to tear down the column to get to it. It can be cone with the column still in the car.

I had the same problem a few months back. With the lever out look into the hole that it enters with a flashlight and use a small screw driver to spin the metal piece that rotates to turn on your wipers. Turn it until the notches line up. Then install your lever with the notch lined up.
