hello people; A co-worker just bought one used in a 4 door vehicle. It had less than 25000 miles and he said he got a good deal. But he had his mechanic go thru it and it needs 8 qts. of oil and 16 spark plugs. But the book wants him to change the plugs every 30000 miles. I thought that sounded kinda weird as any newer car I've delt with doesn't call for that in at least double that.
that is all

What year Hemi? My 2007 factory service manual says replace plugs every 25000 miles and follow the torque spec. Should be 7 qts of oil 5W20. Must use this viscosity oil for Multi Displacement (cylinder cancel) to work properly.

Dodge uses regular old copper plugs in there motors for some reason. It does take 16 plugs and the the service life is around 25-30k miles.

Mine is an 06 6.1 liter, the plugs still had original gap at 100,000 miles on mine.

The 6.1 in 2006 is an SRT8 engine without MDS. MDS was not available for SRT8 until 2012. SRT8 requires spark plug change at 99000 miles in 2007 and so do the 6 cylinders. MDS shuts the same 4 cylinders when activated. I installed platinum in my 5.7 engine and will probably change near 45000 mile interval. The plugs for all modern Hemis have extended reach (with over an inch of thread), but that is not an excuse to ignore the spark plug torque spec (plugs are siamese).
