Here is what oil looks like after sitting in an engine for 50 years

Love that Model A! Clean survivor.

Oil was in there 50 years and could have been pretty old before it was parked.

How do you not drain the oil before attempting to start? Isn't that basic mechanic 101? Had to have done some damage.

Good point on the other fluids..

This sounds just like my late Dad......back in 1975, I was working as a draftsman, then did the 4-12Am shift at a car dealership as a mechanic....

Dad had a brand new 1971 red Buick Centurion convertible.....and he NEVER HAD THE OIL CHANGED. Ever! Just added oil when it was low, that's it.

One day, while "trying to drive" his Centurion, it barely ran....I asked Dad if he would like me to take it in to my late night workplace and give it a complete tune-up....well, this sounded good to him.

After my shift ended, I put it up on the lift, hooked the "Bear" engine analyzer machine on it....won't go into detail of how bad the machine told me the car was operating....the main point is, when I undid the oil pan bolt to change the oil, then put the tall oil drain catch basin under it, the oil slowly came out like very, very cold syrup... It was taking forever to drain...all the guys in the shop stopped an stared in amazement! So, my buddy ran over the counter, grabbed some scissors, came over to the long strip of oil slowly coming out of the oil pan, and snipped off a piece!! He actually held it for a few seconds as an oily rope before it flowed into his hand........the whole shop erupted in laugher . They couldn't believe that the car still ran..............

When I finally finished all the tune-up, with all new parts AND new oil, I was doing burnouts down the middle of the shop with it.

That story was told for years afterwards there............I told Dad he was famous for all the wrong reasons......I made sure that I always serviced his car after that.....very hard headed man he was.

Guess that's the reason he gave me his Grand National years later before he passed away....he finally realized that I cared about him and his cars.....
