Here is what IHRA Vice President had to say!
Thanks for your comments. We'll start slow and work our way into this
program. Managing the program is key. We've been able to keep a level
playing field in Pro Mod with those different combinations, so I have
confidence we can do the same here.

Subject: Turbo V6's in Pro Stock
I saw your recent article on competitionplus.com and I feel this would
be great. I only wish that IHRA would be more open minded. Pro Stock
started as factory Modified, well please tell me what factory can you
go and buy a 800+ cubic inch car of the factory assembly line. Well in
1986, you could go and buy a 231 V6 turbo in a regal. 800+cubic on
paper would be greater than 231/252. But at a turbo or turbos, then things
change. Courting Toyota is nice, even Nissan, maybe Honda, but do not
leave out the Domestics. Chevy is into Ecotec 4's, but they also have a
potent inline six with a turbo or two could make things interesting.
There is also the "tried and true" Buick 3800. Buick has been building
turbo V6's since the 70's. They now have a refined 3800 that is one of
the reliable and powerful V6's in the world. Ken Duttweiler has went
6.8's in his Twin Turbo V6 Cutlass (ran 7.50's in a full size GN). Ford
doesn't currently have a V6 program but they could start one based on
the Supercoupe. Dodge doesn't have one either, but they still have
access to the Steath Twin Turbo V6.
I guess I would be SCARED if I had to line up with a Turbo car. Buddy
Ingersoll started something back in 1986. He made a "Believer" out of
all of us. From a marketing perspective, the NOPI/Import crowd would
start showing up. It would be interesting to see a Supra, a 350Z or
Skyline in Pro Stock. If IHRA pulls this off, NHRA will have to go to
the drawing board. I would definetly buy a ticket to see this. BTW, I
hope the IHRA find its way back to Alabama. You guys put on a "GRREAT
Show" back at Steele. Unfortunately, the track owner shortcutted
building his track on swampy land.
Thanks for hearing my issue.
