Hey all, just sign up for the site and just got my first 87 gn, :biggrin:
not real familiar with this car at all, but have always wanted one.

First question for the group, the gn that i got has a bad transmisson, wondering what is the best thing to do, rebuild or switch to a different tranny, everthing i have been reading says the stock tranny is not really that good.

In stock form the GN 2004R is one of the best 2004Rs. You can rebuild yours with upraded parts or buy one from a Vendor on this site. Here's a list with many excellent builders. One of them may be close to you. Didn't see your location listed.

Have it rebuilt, preferably by one of the board vendors or someone that knows a 200. Or it's possible the horror stories will continue. :frown:

Ok, so rebuild the stock tranny, 2nd question is it possible to do it myself? via a kit or something. Really want to rebuild the vehicle as much as i can on my own.

Just something i always wanted to do :biggrin: :biggrin:

Get the 2004r book from Chris at CK Performance, read it then make your decision. If you have any transmission experience then you could handle it. Take your time, do things by the book, take your time, keep it clean, and take your time!
