Alright fellas....here's another newbe question... I just converted the 85 to run on E-85. Got the 60lb inj and chip from TT. All the supporting mods are there...i.e.: fuel pump, hotwire, scanmaster, ported heads, intake, etc. etc....so, the question is: How do I crank the boost up past 15 psi? Will the stock WG handle more than 15 psi?? (threaded for adjustability, of course) I bottomed out the rod and can only pull 14-15 psi. Is there a HD wastegate actuator available for the H/A cars? I know some people are using the 86-87 actuators....but I refuse to tear up the new hoodliner on my 85...is there another option?? Manual boost controller?? ...how do they work?? Do they work in conjunction with the stock WG actuator? Any help is greatly appreciated. I would sure like to get the boost up into the sweet spot of this turbo....(kinda bigger than a TA33C....:D) ---Keith

i would just use a manual boost controller, it goes in series with your signal line going to your boost controller. If you are sure that you just have an actuator that is opening to early. I used the modded 87 actuator on my old setup and had no hood liner issues, it was able to pull past 18 psi with my old TA-33C.

Leak

In the line going to the actuator--put some kind of controled leak. Or adjustable leak would be better stated. Pressure on the actuator is what opens it. Drop some of the pressure and the boost will rise assuming your turbo is healthy.

I had all the factory type lines, actuator and solenoid and did like Lee said. Controlled leak and I was able to run a rock steady 25 at the track with my old 85 GN.

I just pulled my single hose actuator off which was pulling over 20 lbs boost with room to increase. I installed a stock two hose actuator and am pulling 17 lbs boost before I begin the process of shortening the rod. Will post up my results tomorrow as I am looking for 20 lbs. Brad

a short somewhere?

ok ran into another problem now this is the second time my new battery is dead before i didnt have any of my front headlights corner or parking lights plug in, the light harness was just there and my battery would not die but ever since i plug in all the connectors to their proper light it seems to b killing my battery the first time i charged the battery up completely and it fired right up of course so i left the car alone went to try n start it today and nothing battery is low its been like 10 days since that last time so im guessing i have a short somewhere having to do with my front end lighting harness and i dont know where to begin? ive never had this problem before has anyone ever experienced something like this? any help on how to figure or find this short is much appreciated before i end up taking it in to a proffesional n dump money thanx

No biggie.

So I swapped out the wg with a new 86-87 style. Drove it and got around 14 psi. Stopped, cranked it in a few turns, got a solid 15, then it would creep up to 19 or 20. Still slow as a turd on spool up and doesn't pull for s#!t on the low end.

Did you put a mbc on that car yet? WHen you do, have the actuator rod close to stock to reduce the amount of spike. I think I got a 1 lb spike at the most. Holds 22psi nice and steady until I can't see the speedometer needle anymore. Hurry up and get it done. I wanna see if the E85 allows as much boost as the cars running 93+alky!

Your quote is funnier than hell. Did you actually hear someone say this? It sounds like this kid who used to try and hang out with us and tell us he was going to put a "fully blown" big block in his truck.

""I bought the short block because I didn't know if the long block would fit in my camaro, plus it was cheaper, but when it showed up it didn't have any heads on it.""

It was posted by "ineedagn" He saw it on my sig about a week ago. Laughed his ass off

UPDATE----Figured it out. NEW  hi-flow cat converter was plugged solid. Made a test pipe for it. Put it on, and took it for a test drive...went around the corner and gave it 1/2 to 3/4 throttle and.....holy crap!! Boost gauge bounced off 25 psi and I was sideways with a huge cloud of smoke behind me.... Then later on: .806 o2's at 25 psi in third gear.....on the HOT AIR! ...Gotta love that E-85!!! ;)
