I got a RCA cable modem that's at least 4 years old. Suddenly I'm loosing my activity light flashing and I'm gettng an icon in the system tray that says the connection is slow or stopped. I called Comcast to see if they are having an issue on there side. They said no and suggested I unplug the modem. It worked. Now the same thing has happened several times and it will work again after resetting it. I assume it's going bad. If I get a new modem do I have to call Comcast to establish a new IP address?

I had the same issue with 2 modems. Comcast won't admit to it. Just have them come out and bitch for a new modem. I bet all your problems will go away :) Let us know how you make out!

The modem was bought at Best Buy and at the time the it was AT&T's Road Runner connection I was using (about 2001). AT&T got bought out by Comcast. Since I got the modem on my own, etc I'm SOL. Guess I got to go shopping.
