homemade rear seat brace

not mine, but has anyone made their braces using flat steel stock? like this,Rear Seat Bracing

just curious if anyone made this style instead of using conduit. from the pics it looks to be 1"x1/8"*36" flat steel. i'm thinking about making a set and it should only cost about $20 in stock and some hardware.
