Does anyone have any feedback on making a claim on your homeowmers. We have some storm damage and just wondered if anyone has any input. Are they gonna raise our rates or cancel? I've always heard horror stories about these things. ????

18 months ago I had an ice damage claim with Allstate and they came out and settled it quickly for a fair amount and did not raise our rates. If you have a deductible, consider that amount also when filing a claim.

They can't raise just your rates....however if a significant amount of people in you zip code make claims, than you rates will probably go up because of that. No they will not cancel you do to act of god damage

I thought so but people always tell their horror stories. Depending on the estimates, I'm not sure if its worth paying the deductable. One of those things where there is damage, but if I make a claim I have more than just physical damage like food spoiling b/c we didn't have power for 3 days. Thanks for the input though.

Just noticed your from south bend....I saw that storm and I'd be prepared for a rate increase because I'm sure that storm did plenty of damage...If you get some storm chasers in your neighborhood talk to them and one of them will probably take care of your deductible if you let them do the work. Insurance companies usually do 2 checks....a prorated one now, then an actual cost one after the work is complete, based on what the contractor invoices.

Depends on the cause of the damage.

Has lighting hit the two trees out back. Insurance company paid for their removal all the damage and the value the trees added to the property that was lost when they were removed.

No increase in rates either. But then I have a great carrier and insurance guy.

3 very large limbs came down. One knocked off a section of my,(should be gold plated for what they cost), gutters. Also. The patio table had liftoff and shattered the stain glass top. Umbrella took off down the road and is torn to hell. And like I said all our food was lost. Pretty fortunate compared to some around here. And this all happened later in the day after my truck was broken into. Lucky me.

Just ask anybody on the Gulf Coast. Rates are up 40% if you can find a carrier...
