Hood insulator factory fluke?

We were sitting in the shop last night & a friend noticed a hood insulator pad I have that the 6 is laying on it's side. My camera has no flash, I will see if I can get a pic outside tomorrow. Anyone else ever seen this before? It's definately a gm pad. Can't remember if it was original or replacement. The 6 is laying on it's side so the arrow points up.

The pad on my '84 T-Type had an upside down 'k'.
