Hose ID, OD questions

I have a couple of hose questions.
When you order hose and ask for a specific size, do you have to specify inside diameter, or is this the standard way it is measured?
The reason I ask, is that I ordered some 1/4" braided teflon line, but I think it is the wrong size. It is 1/4" OD and 5/32" ID. Did I get hosed or can I use this? (It is a custom made 15' length, with 1/4" JIC fittings on the ends)

I typically get my braided hoses in # sizes. ie -4 for pressure with a female brass -4 to a 1/8 pipe brass male.

careful with JIC and SAE they are easy to get screwed up.

So Razor... What is the standard OD or ID ?
Is it too small, should I take this back, or will it be ok?

The JIC stuff works fine with the rest of my fittings.

Stainless hose where I buy it comes in numerical sizes, ie, -3, -4, -6, -7, -8, etc. For pressure and size will do. I like small diameter hose since it "fills" faster than larger dia hose. and there is a fitting size difference between a JIC6 and an SAE6. -6 hose is like 11/32.

So if your pressure hose is a -4 stainless, your good to go. And dont make the mistake of using steel fittings. lots of gold colored fittings that are plated steel. They will corrode.

Just looked up my PPW, -4 hose is .187 id.

It looks like my ID is .09375 (3/32) that is half of what yours is .1875 All it says on the tag is "4TSL" (I think that is a "L", could be an C) OD is 1/4"
If this is too small to use?

Sorry for dragging this out, but I had to tear apart a lot of the car to run the line, and don't want to find out after it is all back together that it wont work properly.

I confirmed mine is .187 id.

Considering the length of lines, good question.

They probably sold ya -3 hose for use on brakes.
