I need to strap my engine down real bad. Does anybody sell a kit which will strap my engine down? Or has anybody made one themselves? I have confirmed false knock and cannot find it . Thanks- Brad

BRAD you dont want to use a strap you know better. just order a set of the HRPARTS motor mounts and be done with it. if you dont want to do both just get the drivers side.

HR Parts has great motor mounts and I run both sides on my car. They are pretty pricey, but they are worth it in my book. Wished I'd bought them before adding the 3" downpipe, they allow for some slight repositioning of the motor that would have made the downpipe install and clearance easier.

i sent brad a pm with all that info but good to see someone else agrees

awsome you will be very happy with them. i know i am

Exactly, those straps really never worked, if you add the poly motor mounts you're issues will go away and you'll be a lot better off. Paul's products are all excellent, I love his rear sway bar as well as the poly tranny mounts.

agree he does make a killer anti roll bar (sway bar).

Lee Thompson and I both use a steel rod that bolts to the back of the head and goes down to the upper A-arm bolt. This way the motor still sits in the "cushion" of the stock motor mounts but it can't twist. Works great and the cost was 0 $.

I personally think the poly motor mounts give the best support and well worth the investment. As far as the support of the stock mounts, most of those by this time are in need of being changed from breaking down. As was the case for my car.

The strap works great on my car.

im not sure why people run the strap. everyone know the problem is the motor mounts. Are people running the strap due to the high price (if you consider the mounts expensive) and this is a cheap fix to the problem? i just done see why you would run the strap when you can change the mounts and get rid of the ugly motorcycle tie down strap.

money and old habits. Its well over $200 for both poly mounts vs. $30 for the strap. And chaining the engine down for better torque on any hot rod has been around since day one.

The stock ones might only be $30.00 bucks but you just get the same problem down the road. The Poly's will never break down and crap out. I guess if you want that ugly strap in there and do something just because it's old school, that's your choice. But as previously posted the new mounts eliminate the issue altogether and you don't have to strap anything down. Yes they might cost more, but they are well worth the investment..and you get what you paid for. Paul Ferry is one of the few vendors still supporting our Buicks and a great vendor and person.

100% agreed on the above post. My post was giving my the 2 reasons why I feel most people stick with the ol tie/chain down. I'm running polys on both my gn's. I'm only using the poly on driver side of my daily driver though.

OK Guys- Lets kill the chatter on this subject. I started this thread and we should end it here. The bottom line is I was looking for a cheap way to stop false knock which means holding my engine down for less than $50. My idea was a strap. Nobody makes one.
The only answer is poly motor mounts which cost ~ $250 shipped and then I have to pay real money to have them installed. I am talking about easily $400 minimum installed. I hope this will cure my false knock because it will be time to move on. Thanks- Brad

brad you should need to pay anyone to do them unless you dont have time. there very easy to install all you need is a jack and some basic hand tools. you can do it with the motor in the car and everything. just unbolt one side jack the motor up alittle put the new mount in and bolt it up and repeat on the other side. should take about 2 hours i would say doing it on your back in the garage.

One more post Brad, and I'll shut my mouth. :D Now that I think about it, I would think the best way to go on a street driven car as far as personal comfort from a vibration standpoint, and maybe less chance of false knock,... would be the method bigdaddy has mentioned. Using stock motor mounts so the motor does indeed sit in a "cushion", and have a ridgid steel rod connecting frame to the motor for antitwist. (and if their mounting it in the rear, its pretty much outasite). then replacing stock motor mounts every few years for $30 certainly isn't to bad on the wallet.
But I would have to disagree with saying the strap doesn't work. Maybe if you've got some really worn/soft motor mounts, it wouldn't be as effective,.. but still, poly is going to be the way to go. just my 2 cents

see that another thing i have never had a problem with. some people say that the HR parts motor mounts cause viberation. i have never experienced this and i run them on both sides. I dont know....
