how about this turbo?

My airflow at this stage is now consitently in the 360gps range at the given point I mentioned above. Significantly more air than was attainable with the smaller turbos.

Dave,

How much air did direct scan show before just the turbo change.... under the same conditions of course .... ie mainly outside air temperature....???

I wouldn't even ask this on someone elses thread.... except I think there may be something to learn for all of us.

In looking back through some logs, I was seeing the stock turbo top out around 260-265gps and the TA49 with the smaller garrett housing could manage 295-300.
As I added the Precision housing to it, and finally moved on to a TE44 with it's present configuration, I ended up in the 360gps flow ranges.
And since each step yielded and increase in air flow, that's why I believe there room for a bigger turbo, even though I don't think I've gotton to the point of "overspeeding" this turbo yet, I'm pushing it terribly hard.

I'm going to agree with dave on the PSI/airflow thing.

Also dave, what gains did you see (mph) with the PTE housing??

PS. is the PT 54 still for sale??

Hey, I think we're starting to look in the right direction  With the larger more efficent compressor housing alone we're not going to see a difference in PSI vs. CFM. What everyine loves to overlook is the larger less restrictive exhaust housings that come on the bigger turbos. With less of a bottleneck in the air flowing out of the cylinders there will of course be more room for air flowing in. The combo of a less restrictive exhaust housing and cooler charge is what is really making the power here.

I agree sleeper-6. I measured a large gain in flow using my precision .63 housing compared to the stock garret unit on my TA61. However the spool up was definately affected. Wonder where the perfect medium would be found?

Another point I haven't seen mentioned yet is that even thou the stock turbo and pt54 can attain 15 psi each, the stock turbo won't be able to hold 15psi at the high rpms sustained as it doesn't flow enough air to keep the intake pressurized. A larger turbo pushing more air will be able to maintain the pressure as the rpm's increase.
