Well, This will be my first year attending BG and I will be scouring the car corral for a nice 87 T-Type. I am not about to go lugging $10k+ in cash around for a week, and My banks will only issue a official check with the payees name and the exact amount, which is no good because I don't know what I will be buying, for how much, and from who. So how do most of these higher price cars get sold? Do most people carry that much cash around? It took me too long to accumulate that much $$$ for me to take that much of a risk. Thanks

Steve

Maybe get M/O or Travelers checks made out to your self. When you find a car you and the buyer can go to a local bank and cash them. Or you could check out the BG chamber of commerce and get a list of banks and see if yours has a branch there.... Good luck!

I think MO's are limited to $1500. Travelers checks may be an option. I have never used them, you sign them, so they are safer than cash right? Thanks for the info.

I know people that have bought $9500 US Postal Service M/O's to go buy cars with. I have never heard that limit.

US post office M/O's are only good up to $1,000! If it were me I would do cash! for several reasons. 1). Cash is KING, get a better deal with cash. 2). Seller don't have to worry about anything being good, it's Cash! I know it would suck to carry that around with you, but i would rather have "cash and a done deal" than a cashiers ck and a problem cashing it!! Cash! and keep quite untill the car you want comes along.. Good luck with your buy!

I guess I was wrong, sorry! Travelers checks will work though! ScotW is right cash is king when purchasing a car.

Scot's right. "money(cash) talks and BS walks". I'd carry cash, but there's some safegaurds you can take. Carry large bills... 100's if possible nothing smaller, keeps the wad small.
Don't carry it in your wallet or anything else that can be "picked". Maybe a money belt or something similar would be a good investment. Nothing wrong with carrying it in your socks if you're really cheap. ;)

Checks, MO's etc. are nice, but not that safe for the seller. They still have to "clear", and if I were the seller, the title or car wouldn't leave my sight until it did clear.

Cash is so powerful an incentive you could even pick up a car that wasn't even for sale originally....until the owner sees the cash that is.

take the cash and a Kimber-( glock-19 as a back-up ) :D ,

take cash, your at a buick event not a mustang:D

I thought you were done with Buicks??

I am done ... BUT if a NICE moonroof Limited T were there in the right color it may get my attention  I still have a nice stage 2 motor sitting here
