I'm doing a frame notch on my '87 Cutlass along with widening the inner wheel wells and was just curious on what size wheels and tires others are running?
I think we are going to notch it 1" but that will depend on how thick the frame rails are in that area. But I believe from what I've read that 1" is doable.

I'd like to run a 17x10" wheel with a 295 series tire and still be able to lower the car. I'm also not modifying the wheel well lip at all so that will cut down on size a bit too.

Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,

I run a 18x9.5 w/295 35 18 w/ 4.75" BS in the rear with no notch and about 3/16 buzzed off the w/o lip. I would think with a 1" notch you could run a 10" wide wheel and 5" BS with no problem!

Thanks for the info.

Another question, how similar are the wheel wells of an Olds compared to a Buick's?

Seems I was told somewhere that the Olds rear wheel wells tend to be on the small side compared to the Buick's.

I wouldn't imagine that matters much with a frame notch but was just curious if there was any truth to it.
Thanks,

I think the only difference is the wheel opening arch ( style ). On the Buicks its more of a round look and on the Cutlass in is squared off. Where in meets to the floor and you plan to mod it it should be the same. I know of a few guys that have notch the frame about 1" and not moded the tubs, so you may not have to do anything to them.

JP i love those wheels on your gn
who makes them, is your car lowered? how much were they if i can ask
im getting ready for wheels but going back and forth between notching or not but since you got them on without notching then that would be perfect

thank you in advance

Thanks, They are Simmons OM series, The car has Belltech 2" spindles in front and 1.5" springs rear. You can go with a 17x9.5 rear w/4.75 BS and have no rubbing, and go with a 275,285 0r 295 40 17. the 275 and 285 you shouldn't have to trim anything but the 295 will be close on the w/o lip if lowered.I got my wheel from groupawheels.com for a package of $3500 shipped to my door, so they weren't cheap. 17's would be cheaper and stiil look great , a better ride to.
