How can a bad fuel pump affect trans shift points.

I had an old Red Armstrong xp pump in my GN. At full throttle the fuel pressure would drop to 30 or less pounds. The transmission would also not shift right at part throttle. Today I put in a new Walbro pump and the car runs like I added at least 100 hp.!!! To my surprise the transmission also shifts alot better at part throttle. I am just wondering how a bad fuel pump can possibly affect trans shift points???

In simple terms, now the torque curve of the motor better matches the calibration of the transmission.
