How can we protect our cars????

In light of the recent cars getting taken, including my 92 Typhoon a week ago, how are we supposed to secure our investments and keep the stupid assbags from taking our stuff?

I've got some of the normal theft-deterrent devices on my car (of which I will not share because a thief is probably reading this thread right now), but don't feel the least bit safe about it any longer.

I want to know what we can do to keep our cars safe! Isn't there anything out there that works that a thief cannot figure out? And no, LoJack is NOT available in my area.....

yea, we all know that alarms dont do squat. i guess you just cant leave your car anwhere anymore{malls, parking lots,}. its a damn shame. fortunately for me my car sits in the garage 90% of the time, but there is always that 10%.

My 2¢.

My GN was stolen once and had an unsuccesful attempt on it again a few years later. I've learned from experience. Here's my thoughts.

It's also my belief that alarms are largely ignored and easily defeated. Some of the best deterents are homebrewed kill devices. Since they are non-commercial and the possibilities are endless, they'll be harder to overcome. See here.

Some other things that can be done are unplugging your fuel pump harness by the back bumper, take your ECM with you, get a steering wheel removal system, steering column collar, etc.

The Club and similar devices aren't too secure as they can be broken or the steering wheel cut to remove them.

Then you have the dreaded tow truck scenario. That's tougher to contend with since all the the above becomes null & void. One tip here is to select a head-on parking space with a barrier or sidewalk in front of you. An end spot is even better if there is a curb next to you.

Once in the spot, apply the parking brake and cut the wheels to full lock, preferably pointing away from the curb. This will make it a bit more of a PITA to pull the car backwards out of the space or onto a roll back. Of course, the car is still vulnerable but the idea is to inconvenience the scumbags as much as possible.

i feel sorry for the poor fool that trys to steal any of my cars, i hope he will like his life of living chained up in my basement closet eating mush and applying loation to soften his skin for my new seat covers.

I think the steadfast colum lock is good . Most car theives could steal an 80s GM with tilt wheel in seconds , its super easy . So thats a good move to slowem down at worst . Hidden switches for the fuel and computer is easy to do and would make it harder too . The car cranks too so that makes it hard to figure out why its not starting .

But it could still be stold with a roll back.

There is one product that WILL deter a thief, but not someone from towing it away. That is the Power Lock. The car cannot be stolen/started unless the proper "touch key" is used that will allow the solenoid to be activated.

One local owner still has his car because it was protected with a Power Lock we installed. Many other local cars have this system including my 2 drivers.

Do have literature available, and it will be on my web site soon.

you could always lock a Pit bull in the back seat , give it a chew toy to keep it from eating the interior if it gets bored .

I've had to replace the steering column in my car 3 TIMES!!! The only thing I believe that saved my car was a hidden waterproof switch for both the fuel pump and main power for the ECM(knock on wood). I know people could be watching me when I park my car, but the chances of them figuring out both the switches are slim. I guess you could put three position switches in and that would make it exponentially tougher for a thief to figure out the position of all the switches. If there was a way to configure some sort of manual line-lock in the floor to the rear brakes it would make towing the car a lot tougher.

And I always block my car in my driveway w/another car at night.

Kirbans also sells a "stealth" disable system that requires the owner of a TB to touch two metal contact points in order for the car to start. Since the installer/owner determine which points are the contacts it makes it immeasurably tougher to start the car.

Just a little FYI. I will be investing in one soon. Never can be too safe.

Any way you can make your car "different" from the others will help.
If a thief wants a GN, they are likely to know typically what wires do what. They also study the alarm installations and the wire colors. The ones who know what they are after will do their homework.
Which is why you have to wire your car differently than every other one out there.
Similarity makes the cars easier to fix, but easier to steal.
You think that someone after a GN doesnt know about the pump connector? Or to take a spare ECM with an installed chip to bypass programs?
When I did my conversion (87 LC2 transplant) I wired in some things differently, including the pump, the ECM, and a few other select things. And using wires of all one color will confuse someone looking for a specific wire color.
You could always put a "boot" on it. Put one on each rear wheel, turn your front wheels, park nose-in, and it will be pretty hard to drag that onto a flatbed.

I have long given up on beating theives. The more you worry about it the more likely you'll end up with ulcers. What now worries me is that some petty theives will do something stupid like take off with my wheels, headlights, or other parts. Maybe even vandals.

I think I rather someone take off with my entire car than leave me with a car with missing parts. What would make me the most furious is seeing my car on four cinder blocks.

How about a four wheel line lock? If someone made a mechanical one that could be used for hours on end I think it could work.

THIS IS WHAT I HAVE USED AND IT WORKS!!!!!!! and is way better then LOJAK

Its called TELETRAC. It is SATELLITE monitoring system that allows you (the customer) to check the status on your vehicals location at any time of the day 24/7/365! All you do is call the toll free number, give user name and password and within 5 minutes they tell you were ur car is. The system updates every 15 seconds I think, I could be off though.

Heres the punch line.....If your car is stolen, you call the toll free number, the operator finds your vehical calls the police station in WHATEVER AND WHEREEVER city, state your car is in and the nearest patroll car will respond ASAP. Ive heard stories were stolen cars have been found in under 15 min!!!!! This is the real deal my friends.

It also has features like the ONSTAR. Hotel reservations, directions, resturants, gas stations, ect. is all justa phone call away.

For you daily drivers like myself out there, you know sometimes you park somewere and leave when 10 min later you wonder if you locked your car. No problem, call teletrac and they will lock your doors for you! Crazy huh? Works good to if you happen to lock your keys in your car not that ive personally experienced that or something lol.
