I'm in the process of installing my GBodyParts 3in downpipe, and I'm having some clearance issues. I'm sure it's not a problem with the pipe...I've got Poston headers on it, and I had to do some grinding on the flange to get the pipe to line up at all. I've replaced both engine mounts, and put a dent in the pipe to clear the frame, but it's awfully close to the fuel lines. I've got about 1/4 inch clearance between the pipe and the HVAC box heat shield, and about the same at the fuel lines. It seems a little close to me. Anyone else have this problem? And how close is too close?

with new motor mounts, poston headers my thdp slid right in there with absolutly no problem, didnt dent the pipe or anything. as far as the fuel lines  my fuel lines run up the drivers side of the car nowhere near the passanger side of the car where the downpipe is.

Hmmm. I'm going to have to trace those lines. They look like fuel feed and return lines to me. I assumed that that is what they are.

There are 3 lines that run down the passenger side frame rail. 2 are tranny cooler lines and 1 is a fuel return line. 1/4 is close and it really shouldn't be that close considering g body parts claims the that closest their pipe gets after testing is 1/2 inch with bad motor mounts and that's even on the 3.5" so i would call Brian about that. You shouldn't have had to dent the pipe to make it fit. But if using it that way is your only option you should be ok because gasoline is flammable not combustable and the lines for the feed and return run right up against the engine block anyway. Maybe use some heat wrap for piece of mind. just my .02

i think the return fuel line runs up the pass.side and crosses to the other side at the engine craddle.also the right front brake line there to.mine are within a 1/2 inch of my pipe no problem.my pipe is close to the ac box i wrapped my pipe to reduce heat there

Hi,
I know the fuel return line runs on the driver's side of the car. What are you talking about?

I stole this image from another thread, but the lines in question are the ones that run along the frame behind the upper control arm. The pipe was sitting on top of them right where the frame kicks out to the right side of the car.
Definitely not trans cooler...still look like fuel to me.

The Trans cooler lines inside headers/crossover. It isn't them.

I believe the 3 lines are a brake line, the fuel return and the feed to the vapor canister

Of the 3 the return line sticks out the farthest, but it can be persudaded to be a little more conformal to the frame. Unbolt the clips holding it down first and give it a GENTLE bend. Maybe it's the vapor that sticks out the farthest.

the lines on the frame that become an issue with the down pipe are the 1/4 fuel return line and the 5/16 vent for the fuel tank , i hit the return and crushed it with my passenger header before going to hr mounts , the closest to exhaust is the return line
brake line is near there for front passenger brake but its not close enough to hit any exhaust
tranny lines where they become and issue are by the motor/starter not the frame
moving the lines on the frameas mentioned by removing the clamp and pushing is an option and cant hurt to add space between them and the downpipe

the turbo can also be loosened and twisted on the passenger header to change where the downpipe goes
and the passenger header where the turbo mounts can and does bend easily and can radically change the location of the turbo and even small changes affect clearance of the downpipe and the clearance of maf pipes clearance with uppipes and iacs

also opening up the holes where the downpipe bolts to the turbo even slightly can allow for more adjustability

after replacing my 3" with the new 3.5" it actually rubbed the return line...
the return is on pass side.
i rerouted mine with 3/8. here is what it looked liked, then i took it off and heated it and beat it like my ole lady:eek:

I gave the lines a little tweak, and everything clears pretty well now. Still wish I didn't have to dent the pipe, but it's in and it clears everything.

Thanks for the info.
