How do I get SES light to turn off?(98 silverado)

I have a SES light on in my truck and want to know the procedure to turning it off.

Is it just disconnecting the battery or what?

OBDII or OBDIII? Can I buy the tool to detect the code?

Any good sites to learn more about this truck?

You can unplug the power but if the code is a "hard" code it will be stored and you will need to wipe the code. If it's a code that you can fix yourself, do so and then buy a scan tool or pay the GM dealer to clear the code. Hope it's just a O2 sensor.

OBD ll

An OBD ll diagnostic tester will read & clear your codes. However, the code will return if you haven't fixed the problem.

SES light is on for a reason. There is a problem which is causing emissions to be 1.5 times the EPA mandated limit for that vehicle.

Fix it, or have it fixed. Then reset the light.
