If you're speaking of removing the arm (that the rubber blade attaches to) from the pivot, there is a small lever under the arm that holds it to the splined drive "gear". I usually use a flat screwdriver blade to move the retaining lever out and then have to wiggle/curse/etc the arm off the splines. If the arm has been on there since 1987, it could be stuck pretty well. If that is the case, a wide, flat bladed screwdriver can be used between the arm and the pivot/splined attaching point. Hopefully this makes sense - only 3 hours sleep last night...ugh.

Makes perfect sense and thats what I was trying but they were being stubborn so I thought I was doing something wrong. Oh well. thanks for the info.

look on the arm for tabs

you should find small tabs that are on the sides of the arms , close to the bottom/ mounting points of the arms. you have to pull out the tabs with a screwdriver or pliers to release the arms from the studs. just pull the tabs and pull up on the arms , they should pop right off.

Pull the arm 3 or 5 inches away from the w/s first Then pull out the lever at the base. When you let the wiper go it should stay up off the w/s. Then you need to rock it back & forth & pull the base off at the same time.
