Does any one know how I can stop these things without buying software. I don't have any programs that would cause these things to pop up as much as they do. I'm not sure how but isn't there a windows setting that I can change to block these?

pop up

If your running netscape go to edit >preference>privacy & security >pop-up> check stop pop-up box. that should stop almost all your pop-ups

Okay just going to ask if you mean popups that you get in an internet browser when you surf, or little windows dialogs that you get all the time your connected to the internet, even if your sleeping.

If it's the latter, then you are probably running winXP and should turn off the messenger service. To do so, go to a run dialog, and type "services.msc" and hit okay. Scroll down the list until you see Messenger, double click it, and change the Startup Type to Disabled, then click the Stop button to halt the service.

No more annoying messages.

I use the new version of Google's toolbar. Killer search box is always there, and no more pop-ups. Can be used to automatically fill in forms too.

Thank You

type "services.msc"
The Messenger Service popups were driving me CRAZY until I installed a firewall, no problems since. Wasn't aware you could turn off messenger service like that, thanks

One of the members in #buickGN gave me some help with the spyware that was in this computer I'm using here. Before it was doing advertisements and all sorts of crap all the time. Slowed down my connection and everything. Ever since that program swept through and cleaned up, I only get the occasional pop-ups from websites that have them. PopUp Stopper handles those just fine. I think the name of the program is Ad-aware. Free and really cured my prob.

Have Spy-Bot ,,have Ad Ware, and have the Messenger .msc disabled.........................

So why am I still getting these F@#king pop ups....

Because people who are bent on invading your privacy are tireless, money grubbing bastards. And as such, they work 24/7 to over come the latest firewalls, pop-up stoppers, etc. They are ruining the internet under the auspices of "free enterprise". Not enough harm can come to them for my taste...
