okay.. top engine cleaner comes in a pour bottle..

you pour it into the engine while its running, you pour some while its not running.. you let it sit.. you start the car.

everyone knows pouring liquids such as water into an engine will damage them..

why is top engine cleaner different? can someone link me to a page or a description of how it works?

i dont see how pouring a liquid into your engine could be good.. i mean i know it works, and i know it does wonders.. but wtf.. someone explain it pleeeease :)

thanks guys

Most people that I have seen use it pour it in, let it site for a while then start the motor. It needs to sit to decarbonized and de-gunk (technical term) the top end.

It really cleans the stuff out. Some people said it was like a bomb when the car started and blew everything out. I just got a "nornal" amount of junk out the tailpipe.

Unless the stuff gets by the rings and really contaminates your oil, I'm not sure what harm it could do. I don't see a big difference between this and carb cleaner, and everyone used that for years. Ask the carb guys about how many poured water down the carb while the car was running to de-carbonize the motor :-)

Water

I've done the water deal a bunch of times on cars to de-carbonize. I don't see any reason that you couldn't do it to a TR, either. Just don't get carried away with it. BTW, when using water you don't want to dump so much in that it stalls the motor.

Just overboost it, blow both headgaskets, then pull the heads and clean the carbon manually:D

Well having done a GM top end recently, I wasn't ready for the surprise on how hard it was to restart after letting it sit.

It must have did its job because it smoke like a mother after it finally did start though...

Basically if you follow the instructions the ideal is when the TEC sets and soaks into the carbon on the intake valves and on top of the pistons there is a chemical reaction that loosens the carbon. Let your motor get up to operating temperture and the TEC literally boils itself in the engine. The key is to follow the directions. If you find trying to pour the TEC into the engine difficult use GM part number 1052626 as it comes in a spray can. Eric Fisher

"Ozone action" day

Just make sure it's NOT an "Ozone action" day, like I didn't do. Thing smoked like a mother and I couldn't see the rest of the neighborhood for 30 minutes. :D If ya wanna avoid complaints by the neighbors, do it in the garage. Your wife won't mind at all. :D :D

i just followed the directions on the can and when it got to 1/3 can i just poured it all in and it stalled the motor, let it sit for 15 mins then started it up and smoked out the neighborhood.

I sucked some water through the vac line that goes to the charcoal cannister on my ttype. Obviously I did it very slowly making sure it didnt suck a ton of water in at once. The idle speed picked up a few hundred RPMs, and it smoked a little bit. I dont think it really did anything. I also tried some SeaFoam cleaner, again, didnt notice a difference or smoke a lot.

turn your stock uppipe from the intercooler upside down and pour it in running keep it running with the thootle linkage then let it sit for at least 30 min. and then start it up and burn the hell out of it. It should smoke like a freight train

Where can i get this stuff?? and where can i pour it besides the up pipe?

thanks

Any GM dealer should sell it. Thats where I got mine.

I hate the fact that its hard to start the engine after letting the stuff sit for 15 minutes:mad: . Works great though!:D

~$5.50 for the pour, ~$9.50 for the spray

being a hotair i think ill have to use the spray

You might want to change your oil, filter, and plugs right afterward as well, just in case. My plugs looked very good when I changed them after the treatment.

Just did the top end clean with a bottle of SeaFoam (Napa carries it). That's how I found my header was cracked again. Don't overlook the benefit the smoke gives you in diagnosing the integrity of your exhaust system.

TEC w/car on alky?

Any benefits at all to running TEC when car has alky injection? Curious, as I know the alky acts to clean combustion chamber deposits. Overkill or just keep on using denatured?
