How fast have you driven your car on the road?

I hit 140mph once on the highway, and I have to admit it was a little scary and the best high I ever experienced...

I had a 2001 C5 Corvette, I worked on the Weapons Station in Goose Creek, SC. After you go through the first gate it's like 5 miles (with some long straight stretches) to get to our work area. The MP's at the first gate wanted me to "get on it" so they could see what the Vette had, I then complied :biggrin: . A little ways down the road I hit one of those straight aways while driving in and thought what the heck, no traffic. Anywho....I hit about 155 and was running out of room before the next light. So that's it, 155. Things go by pretty quickly at that speed. :biggrin:

I don't know. My speedo only goes to 85

I've had my car to almost 6800 rpm in 3rd gear. At the track it goes through the traps at 6300 @ 142. My guess is 150ish? It happened very fast and only stayed at that speed for a second.

170mph NEVER AGAIN! I was against a 06' ZO6 with a procharger pushing 10lbs of boost on an very long old air strip. We were dead even all the way.... Scared the living Sh*t out of me when my car started to float....

I loved the look on his face when the little V6 with a PT70gtq / .85 exhaust housing held right with the kid!! Then he wanted to go from a 45mph roll and I imediately jumped a whole car on him and we held there.

RESULTS: Was a blown drivers exhaust manifold gasket and the water pump was leaking out the weep hole!! Those manifolds had to be glowing red!!

My ol' GN was pretty stout! More'so on a open course!!!

Now onto my new project and some new technology....

158, in a 69 nova with a big block, back halfed, 315 nitto tire, light rain, front leather bench seat, windows down (till 120mph) then I had to pull my head in because it was getting hard to hold on. He lifted in 4th gear at 6800 if I remember correct. I was 20 years old :biggrin: almost dropped a duce in my paints!


as some have stated never again, I don't want to go that fast again unless some major safety points are checked first. Just like a bike I road once, it was 1000 gxr and it was my first time riding any moto bike. Well after a few laps around the neighborhood I went out on a straight road, gave her just a hair of throttle and before I knew it I was well over triple digits. But I couldn't believe it because it was so fast and smooth at the same time, needless to say I turned around came straight back to my friends house and have never ridden a bike sense. Nor do I plan too.

125 in an 88 Dodge Daytona CS on the I-294. It cut out at that point. In my younger days I used to play pole position and weave in and out of traffic. I just don't have the nerve to drive like that anymore.

Been faster than 130, but that is the highest number I have seen. I get too nervous to look away from the road at really high speeds.

167mph in a 1986 ferrari testarrosa with me behind the wheel and owner riding shotgun this was on the 105 frwy at 2am in the morning heading east away from the airport. I must admit that it was scary as hell.

in the limited i hit like 120, and slowed down as it is a brick with a powermaster. in an old saab i had i hit like 150 in the desert. It was really funny because I was cruising at like 130 and and old lady cut me off at 130!!! I wasnt mad I just laughed about it!

I have yet to own a car long enough to find out..... Although the Police Charger went like 145 or so I think during a pursuit of an Audi of I-95.

I went 168 with a 25 mph tail wind (via Terrell County TX sheriff's radar board), but 162 mph with a 25 mph headwind going the other way felt like I was going much faster.
