How fast can I go with stock headers, and what can I do to keep them from cranking?

Also will hooker headers work with a ATR down with the External waste gate?

Stock headers can go deep. I have gone 11.6 but there are some who have gone a lot faster with them. As far as cracking there are ways to weld and brace them better.

Ive gone 10.29@133+ with them on a piece of crap enigne. They can go further. Nothing you can do to prevent cracking. You can reduce the frequency of it by using the correct welding wire and sandblasting/drilling the cracked area.

only problem with repeated welding is the chance of a piece breaking off and destroying your nice new exhaust wheel on your nice new $1200 turbo:eek::mad::mad:

I went high 9's with stockers. Switched to ATR's, and gained nothing. I cut my stockers apart and smoothed out the pipe overhang at the merges. The issue is the more power you make, the more heat and pressure there is in the headers. My old headers are on my brother's Cutlass now. No new cracks, they have been going strong for over 6 years now.

There is a thread here somewhere where one of the pump gas alky guys (someone else besides Melissa) went in the 9's I think at 140 or so..... stock headers.

IMHO, look elsewhere unless you are shooting for sub 9.50's......

If the correct welding rod and temp was used nothing will ever break off

unfortunately you learn the hard way sometimes when a supposed "expert" takes $1g of your money because you figure you'd let someone else take a look and they do nothing but fuck up every last thing they touched on your car......

This guy literally is supposed to be an expert in my area....i chased a problem for a year that turned out to be weak valve springs on the brand new heads i put on....he had the car 5 weeks, and did nothing more than beat the balls off it while throwings parts at it....i had already did that myself...i get it back with 4 gallons of gas in the tank!!! i never run with less than 11!!! he leaned the shit out of it and flexed my crank in the process....
