I was looking into getting a rebuild kit for my transmission (it's toast) and attempting the job myself so I called CK Performance and found that a better alternative might be to buy one whole. He has a pretty good deal on a heavy duty rebuild with a shift kit and a Billet forward drum. The only problem is, I would have to give him my original trans in exchange. Am I going to regret this later on down the road? Will I ever be able to say the car is "#'s matching"? What do you guys think?

its nice to have but a lot of cars dont. if the dealer fixed your trans under warranty. it got a reman trans and your trans went back to the gm rebuilders for the next guy. if you have the correct one i would at least keep it.

Are the numbers stamped in the case or just on the tag? I kept my original case when I replaced my transmission. I'm thinking I could've just kept the tag?

Jim

The #'s are stamped on the pan rail of the transmission on the drivers side.

I'm glad I kept the case then. I think. I don't know if I'll ever do anything with it, but at least I have it.

I have my original engine block under my workbench so I know what you mean. :)

Me too! (block that is) I'm really surprised I still have my original tranny case still in the car, especially after all the rebuilds it went through out there at Don's.

I'm not sure my block is original. The block that was in the car has been rebuilt, but it's the same one. How can I tell if it's original (where are the numbers)?

Jim

Look on the pad on the drivers side of the block. The last part of your VIN should be stamped there.
