I've just got the crome pipe from the intake bell to the maf and the filter is hooked right onto it. I've got a mounting bracket for the maf, but no way to mount the maf to it ... besides, the filter decides where everything is going to line up
How many of you folks have actually watched the airfilter on a chasis dyno? I think you'll be AMAZED at how the big K&N cone style filters collapse on a high horsepower car. A friend was dynoing a 11.7 sec Ford Lightning, and the huge K&N cone filter was sucking FLAT at WOT. If you have a high HP. car, look at the filter for wrinkles, they are very common. The wrinkles indicate the filter is going flat on ya! I realize the above filters are damaged from rubbing on something, but I thought I would add a little bit of info for everyone to think about. The ATR canister (along with the Kenne-Bell version) actually RESTRICT flow on high power cars. If you make more than 500 hp I would re-think the filter options available to you. Just my $.02
It should be OK. Just keep an eye on the filter and if it starts to look "wrinkled" then it is a restriction. Those filters are real long and "wrinkle" easily. For years I have been very careful about installing the filter so as not to distort it. But have noticed the wrinkling, but couldn't figure out why it would do this. It is, after-all, a BIG 14" filter rated at about a million CFM, so it couldn't possibly be a restriction Well, after my freind witnessed the filter collapsing flat on his Ford, he solved the wrinkling issue. He was running a HUGE K&N cone filter with 4" inlet. That's why the real fast cars don't run air filters at the track. I'm not suggesting that you run with-out a filter though.
