Trying to get an idea of what "average" is. I lift 3 nights a week, and one night there was a guy there they just call "big". He dead lifted 405 lbs. Everyone was pretty impressed. One guy did 315, which everyone said was a lot. I did 275, can probably do 300 even. I got the 315 up but not all the way. This is the first time I've ever tried.

That "big" dude benched 455! I'll never get there. Right now my goal is benching 300. Getting there, just slow. I'm like dis proportionate or something. I curl over 120 lbs, but can't bench for crap.

I dead lift 225 lbs out of bed every morning.:D I like doing 12 oz curls but can't do as many as I used too. If I really want a workout I make sure to use a heavy frosted mug instead of the bottle.:D

I know girls who bench and deadlift more than this "Big" character.

Want to see the vids?

http://www.beccaswanson.com/whats_new.html

She just set the womans record and benched 465lbs, squats 770lbs for 2 good reps and deadlifts 660 lbs.

I'm more into the bodybuilding side of things, but I have a lot of friends who powerlift so I get to meet all kinds of freaks who weight less than 200lbs and bench 400 some odd pounds. I never lift MAX poundages, but when I'm bulking up I frequently use 275-315 for 4 sets of 4-8 reps on bench. Never want to see what my max is either...get hurt too easily. :D

To determine true strength there is a formula for your weight by how much you can bench, dead, squat....

If the "big guy" deadlifts 405, but weighs 250, he's not that strong in my opinion. I deadlifted 450, "clean", weighing about 195. My bench is not close to that guys, but I think again true strength should be throughout your body, not just your chest.

The most important thing, especially with deadlifting, is to maintain proper form. You can seriously hurt yourself if you don't. Always keep your butt down as if you are sitting down, and keep your head looking up, just as squating, and never, never get your back bent over trying to pull up that much weight.

Keep in perspective also how long somebody has been training to get to high weight levels. I've been lifting for 12 years now....

I think that chicks my dads neighbor. Not really, but shes a body builder. Grosses me out. I'm sure she can out lift me, but shes freaky lookin'.

Were not lookin to set records here, just bulkin' up. benching 455 is strong, no matter whats dangling between your legs.:D

I hear ya bro...

She competed in a Bodybuilding contest here in CO a few years back. She was from Nebraska @ that time.

She's lost some size now as she's going for powerlifting instead of BB.

Keep lifting, be carefull and use good form!!!

How much does a case of Samuel Adams weigh? I can dead lift that case 2-3 times in a row before I need to take a breather.:)

585 pounds about 3 years ago.

my former lifting partner was Tom Manno, do a search and see his records. an other one of my good friends is Josh Harris, he is about 150 and benched 377 or something close to that unassisted (with out a compression shirt)

i am 5ft 7in about a 170 pounds

dead list is all about form, add to that the fact that i have short levers it helps abit.

If you want more info on deads go here Elitefitness.com Go to the message board and then to the Powerlifting section.

By the way 405 for a "Big" guy is not a lot. If you are a bad bencher that might be caused by long arms which would require you to move the weight farther. On the bright side those same long arms will make you an excellent deadlifter.

Man, I don't know about the rest of you, but in that squat video, that chic looks like she has a "package" to me

Would hate to "short change" her in bed ;)

I can easly dead lift a dozen donutz box :D

Actually this is something my cosin use to compete in from about 16 years old today he is 46.

At 225 lbs I remember he could do in the high 500's LBS.. But that was with trainning & steriods. In competion you had to make 3 dead lifts, 3 squats, & 3 bench presses.. they would total out the best weight combo you could lift.

How old are U?

Elite****ness is a damn joke with a bunch of childish talking monkeys. Do yourself a favor and don't waste your time. If you want to read about powerlifting start at http://asp.elitefts.com/qa/ or
www.gotfina.com go look in the house of pain forum. there are others as well if you are interested shoot me a PM.

Im 40 , and glad to still be able to lift and walk around with a turbo 700 or Chevy 12 bolt. I would be a runt if I didnt do my meager weight routine about once weekly. I can see the day coming when it will blow my elbow joints to continue. But its funny that my 26 year old freinds cant heft it like I can. If I didnt have bad health (sleep apnea, and O deep sleep ever), Id love to rally hit the weights.

This is a Buick board. NOT a weightlifting board. So, who cares how much you can lift? Well, at least the pounds part. Me? Well, I can dead lift a complete short block(109). Enough to get it into my cellar, or up one stair at a time. I've tried a long block, but I need my brother's help. He doesn't need mine though. He just pretends to let me help. I can also lift one built tranny(minus fluid) onto my tailgate, or onto a bench. I think this is pretty good, and I rarely need medical attention afterwards. The only problem is, I can't do it without getting dirty. At least not yet. So, how much do these items weigh in the real world(pounds)?

I have no idea. Probably about 100 lbs. before I think to myself, "what is the point in this?".

It's the lounge... lighten up! ;)

I only work out 2-3 times a week, and don't deadlift. I used to try it back in high school and college. It's a great all-around exercise, but the form is so important I steer clear. I've seen some guys deadlift in the upper 500lb range, and that's pretty intense!

First off, this is turbosam6, just different screen name cuz I'm at work.

I'm 26, and I've only been lifting for maybe a year, off and on. I've never dead lifted before.

I do have very long arms. My buddy benches 315 or more, but has very short arms. He watched me bench, and asked me why I had my hands so far apart on the bar. He said its much easier to lift with your hands closer together. But since my arms are so long, I have to space them like that. Oh well. Long arms are nice sometimes. Its funny cuz I have to set the bar on the top rack, but he can't even come close to reaching it there.

I probably won't continue dead lifting, it makes me nervous ever since I tore my knee up at work pretty badly. That hurt so bad that I'd never wanna even try anything that might hurt it again.

The only area I seem to be above average at is the butterfly thing, where you bring your arms together from an outstretched position. If I anchor one arm to something solid, I can pull alot of weight over with the other. The machines at the gym only go to 200 I think, and thats pretty easy for me. Maybe my longer arms help this? Its a pretty useless feat, although it helps for breaking those stubborn bolts!
