I'm not much of a tranny guy so have to ask.

I removed my tranny pan to install a new cork gasket. It's a deep cast pan with no name. I unscrewed the drain plug, and the amount of fluid that came out surprised me by overfilling my half full 15 qt. catch pan!!

So I'm wondering how much fluid I need to pour in before I even try to start the car to check the fluid level??

I'm guessing between 6-8 qts. Am I even close?

Stock start with 4.5 deep start with 6-6.5 start it and adjust from there.

It depends on whether the torque converter is empty or not.

I keep my fluid level at the S bend on the dip stick and if I'm just changing fluid and nothing else I think mine took six quarts.

I start it when I get to the S bend and then warm it up and check again to see if it needs to be topped off. usually at most I add another half quart.

Either way as long as you're on full mark on the stick before starting it you won't do any damage, just make sure you check level before driving it.

Thanks guys, I'll start with 6 and work from there. I was flabergasted at how good the fluid left in the pan looked, and absolutely no residue of any kind laying on the bottom of the pan!!!

A true testament to Donnie Wang's ability to build a stout unit!!!
