If I can get a set of stock TR heads (complete) and did a home port/polish job on them would it help me that much? I'd replace the springs too of course. I don't really know how much extra work is involved..but I'm guessing it labor intensive. Basically is it worth $150 and the time it takes to port/tear motor apart/put back together?

Depends on what your buildup is..Stock turbo, DP, IC, Cam....
Nope. Stock heads, valves w/good springs will go low 11s...leave em alone...

Stock Heads for Sale

Tom Tom Turbo -

I have a pair of stock heads from a 6K original miles motor I can sell...if you decide to do the port.

Send me a private message if you're interested.

2 friends picked up .2 and 2 mph with mild pocket porting and stock valves and put them in the 11's.. Stock turbo's, IC, Inj's..

Unless you have a lot of spare time that you feel like using and getting some experience changing the heads...it's useless, spend your time and money elsewhere.

Your friend picked up .2...ok, so leave the heads alone, put another turbo and injectors on the car and there's .2. My point was you could easily do 11s without that, with less work.

There are easier ways to get the first several tenths, like turbo, intercooler, the fuel system to support them, and traction, but wherever your car is now, fully ported iron heads will gain you .3-.6 sec and 3-6 mph in the 1/4. Pocket porting gets 60% of that for about 25% of the cost.
