I have a perfect domaine name for my business and want to buy a domaine name....Not rent!! BUY the name....It is available to pay a particular website a certain amout every year, but I want to OWN it! Or am I looking at this wrong???How can I get started??

Thanks
Bo

Well, you do own it sort of. You cant REALLY own a domain, you can only lease it. Its that way because some businesses and more often than not, personal websites become outdated or the business goes belly up. The last thing a lot of people think about is getting rid of a domain and since they are leased they just go back in the pool for someone else to grab.

If you renew the lease you get the name for another year. You automatically have dibs on the name since your the current leasee of it. The nice thing is, its easy to sell the name if the price is right. In that respect you own the name so you get 100% of the profits if its sold.

Thank you very much! I just got registered with domain.com.....I dont have the business started yet, but I knew I had to get the name before someone else did.
Should be in business 3 months from now.

Thanks again for the info.

No problem, I have had a personal web site for five years now and it seems to get more and more outdated as the years go by. I keep it around to host pictures and thats about it.

It will soon become the Minnesota Grand National & T-Type associations web site. Right now if you go to www.mgnta.com it will redirect you to the clubs site that I have hosted on my personal site.

Nice website! Is there a cheaper way to get my name hosted on a webpage? I think $70 was the going rate. I am just preparing what I can for now and then maybe spend some cash to complete everything for this website.

Thanks
Bo

Since 1996 or so, I have used DomainDirect.com for my websites. For a personal site, they are the way to go. You get 1 POP account, 5 email forwards and more. No web space for their basic account, but you just redirect to your current providers webspace.

My toddware, revesters, and toddsplace websites are all with them. Its like $35 a year for the email stuff and the domain registry.

Its like $70 if you want webspace with it.

Plus, if you are real new to this, they have a decent webbuilder included as well.

godaddy.com

I use godaddy.com for domain names without a hosting provider (I have some of these web servers running out of my house) around $11 a year. For domains with external hosting, I go with ipowerweb.com. They really never go down, secure and have lots of great tools for administration.

I was thinking of going to various websites and finding a really neat and organized format, then contacting the web host to buy that particular set up. Remember I am new to all of this , so I amthinking out loud.
