How to get a green lawn.

I live in Hawaii. Can't get my lawn green. Used many off the shelf products that claim to green my lawn. I water and water. Still my lawn looks like all the other lawns in my area. I am the only one that spends a lot of time watering my lawn so why does it look like everyones? Guess I should ignore my lawn.

I used to use Scotts weed and feed. In about two weeks i had the greenest lawn. just follow the directions and be sure to use it all summer long.

Take a soil sample to a horticulturist for Ph test, and determine exactly what and how much of it you need to bring the top ground layer to an acceptable growth medium for your grass. It could just need a Ph change although it may already be rich and fertile soil, which another type of plant would grow well on naturally.

Diddo. Alot of the Bermudas arn't as green as say a fescue or blue grass. I agree with the PH test also. You need to see what your lawn wants to grow then tweak the ph and nutrents and make it grow what you want it to grow.

Volcanic dust tends to make the grass brown! Maybe, the rest of the hood washes thier's more often???

Mmmm...there HAS to be an horticulturist somewhere in Hawaii!...:redface: You're lucky not to have any weeds 'cause here in Canada, my property is green but it's not only grass...it's all kinds of weeds!...

Every county should have a "county extension agent". Hawaii should be no different. They can (should be able to) identify it. Check the phone book. You will probably have to just take a sample to them and they can tell you what you have plus recomendations on where to turn next for your dream lawn. All these are good suggestions, but I would guess it is more the type of grass as a few mentioned...

University of Hawaii Manoa Horticulture dept. will do a ph test for a small fee, if I recall. More importantly, they can give you all the advice you need.

Isn't there a greenhouse, landscaping company, something bigger than a flower shop nearby? They'll have a competent staff who'd just Love to help! I've got 3 to choose from inside 10 miles!
