Best I've found is to put it in drive and leave it there. But I'm just running a slow 11 second car.

Same thing my local trans guy told me when I asked about installing an aftermarket shifter. He said no reason, leave it in Drive and let the car do the work.

No one try manual shift from 2nd to 3rd? just curious, I used to, but not latley

Depends on your desired shift points...

So pressures are higher in D vs. OD?

The OD on these trannys will not last too long if you make WOT passes and shift into OD and stay in it.

Im sure Brian will chime in on this one and give you a more detailed answer. My uneducated answer is that the tranny might break.

Line Pressure????

I got my best 60 fts by accidentally leaving the starting line with the trans shifter in second and than once away from the starting line move it into drive and let the little man in the trans do the shifting but have the govenor set up where you want it to shift like around 6000 in my case.:D

I am not a trans guy but I think the reason for the better 60 ft. leaving with the shifter in second is that the line pressure is higher when the trans is in manual first or second than drive, therefore a little less slip is going on in that first 60 ft. Second gear is good because I think things happen a little fast to try and start out in first and than shift for most people "like me".

Leave off the brake (go from 1 to D) and it doesnt matter after that because the trans will shift at 5800 because of the governor mods i did. I never go into OD drag racing.

That was the beauty of these cars! While everyone is slamming thru the gears you just put a turbo Buick in drive and make it seem like your takin a wot ride down a country road! :D

Were the shift points on the 200-4R controlled by the TV cable? I know it controls the line pressure, but does it also delay the shifts when you accelerate?

The governor circuit controls shift points in all GM transmissions unless they have a manual vb. In that case the person driving the car controls it.
