Anyone want to make a good deal on the bushing remover tool from hrpns? It would be shipped to Texas. I need to box my rear control arms and do bushings.

If you can't find one you can get away with a pulley/gear puller with a big socket to force it out and a stack of washers to drive it back in.

how to get them out

Take an electric drill with a 3/8 bit in it and drill many holes in the rubber. It will remove enough rubber that you can push them out easily. You can always grease the new ones and with a block of solid wood drive them in.

Thanks guys. I've got the hrpartsnstuff boxing kit. What bushings would you recommend? I've heard some good things about the hrparts poly with the grease fittings but I don't know if I want to spend that much.

I also found this when I did a search.
I posted previously on this but wanted to share with all of you. Instead of spending that top dollar to purchase the bushing removal tool, I used my ball joint press that I rented from Autozone for FREE (deposit required). The kit comes with three cylinders different in size. The middle size fits perfect after you hammer the lip around the end of the bushing flat. Then it fits. Of course soak the entire bushing in WD 40 or penetrating oil to make it much easier. Proceed to put the one adapter on one side and the other adapter on the other. Use a 1/2 inch ratchet though with your 7/8 socket and a cheater bar works best. The screw side should be pointing towards the front right in the center. The other way gives you an annoying exhaust pipe to work around. WORKS PERFECTLY. Once you get it as far as you can go, you can pound it outward at a 45 degree angle and it will easily pop out. A simple trick for all you stuck on this ANNOYING TASK! Plus, no special parts order. Just hit the local autozone

I used energy suspension bushings that i had bought from a member here but I am not partial to any in particular. If you drive your car a lot the ability to regrease would be nice. Mine squeak a little already. The little black rubber rings they give you for inserting on the side of the arms when you bolt them in made my suspension bind and it was really stiff. Ended up taking them out. They are supposed to keep the bushing from walking during cornering but I am not trying to corner with this thing anyway.

Another trick is to find a piece of flat bar stock the width of the opening in your arms and bend it in a j shape. You can then hook it around the bushings to keep the arms from collapsing while you press the bushings out and in.

I used that HR bushing removal tool to remove the bushings from the rear axle in my car while the rear was still in the car. It made the job very easy, if your doing it in the garage, there really isnt alot of room to swing a hammer to get the bushings out.

As for the bushings in the control arms, i used a big sledge hammer and a large socket below the bushing to get those out. Two wacks with THORE and it was out!

I borrowed mine from ed brewer at dc tech, he might still have it, he used to loan it out alot. I could call him up and see if he still has it if your interested.

that would be great if you could check. I'm not in a big hurry. My goal is to get it done in the next 2 months.

the HR kit is just for the axle bushing , and it works good

for rear control arm bushings what you need is

short lenghts of pipe the right size to slip over the big and little end of the bushing
large socket (just small enough to fit through smaller hole in arm (the bushing from the HR kit works good )
peice of flat stock to fit inside and support the arm to keep it from crushing . i ground a peice of 1 1/4" x 1/8" flat stock from home depot to fit and bent it like a hook , this is the same stock i use for boxing
little wd40 never hurt
small 2lb sledge

and like he said two whacks and it hould be out , same goes for getting them back in
