Does the ECm need to "see" that the column is in park for the idle? If disconnected it will think the car is in gear. My column needs adjusting and sometimes looking at direct scan I can see it is not in park,I turn the column up the rest of the way with my hand so the DS indicates park and the idle seems to get smoother.I was thinking about this when guys mentioned disconnecting the linkage but it may not make a difference.

I did'nt have to bend or tweak anything to make mine fit and go into all gears, just a little adjustment with the cable and i was finish. But a friend of mine with the same shifter had problems getting adjusted also. I did'nt have to make any adjustments with the factory rod at all, just bolted the Hurst bracket in place of the oem bracket, put shifter in low 1, put trans in low 1 , adjust all play out of cable and that was it. It goes in park ok,an all the way into low 1 with no problems.

. The arc was not right. With it adjusted where it would go into park it would not shift into 1st. 2nd on the shifter would put it into 1st on the tranny. It would not have mattered if I bent the bracket or not, if the bowden cable is adjusted it is adjusted, it would not matter what was going on with the bracket unless it is that far off. I corrected the arc and the detents are where they should be to coincide with the transmission. And I chose to cut off the column bracket off the original bracket and weld it onto the supplied bracket that came with the kit. Maybe that is where the problem is.
If anyone else has had this same problem, and apparently so, I will be happy to try to help.

I have the same problem with the arc. I was going to do same and cut off and weld the column bracket and to the supplied bracket. I have been busy and have not had a chance to get back to work on it.
I would love some pics.

Not a problem Bob. I am gonna be under the car tomorrow, so I will take off the bracket and send some pics. The column shift tab is easy to locate, just clap the Hurst bracket and stock bracket together so that the shaft holes line un with each other. Scribe your mark on the stock linkage for the cut and scribe a reference mark on the column tab and Hurst linkage to locate the tab. Then tack it on there and check the function. As long as the tab location is the same in reference to the tranny shift shaft, all is well.

Thanks, I had already cut the stock bracket and it had welded to the provided bracket. I had an extra one.

I wondered how much you extended the bracket?

The shifter really looks great with the BFH plate.
I have used the 1/4 stick for over 14 years in my Pontiac and love it. It was something that I always put off, when it came to the GN.

I understand your pain. The bracket was wrong. For the lucky ones that everything went good for, consider yourself fortunate.I wasn't impatient or anything like that.It was wrong.I've installed many of them and also brought some friends over that are very good with things like this and we all came to the same conclusion .THE BRACKET WAS WRONG(on trans).Trust me I tried everything possible, every suggestion, every way of adjusting,etc...So I took the bracket to work(machine shop).I cut the bracket right above the cable hole.I welded a new piece to it about an inch longer(if I remember correctly) than what it was.Reinstalled it .I drew a dot and tried to adjust .Then if that dot didnt work I erased it drew a new one a little lower until it was perfect.Until that dot lined up with every gear perfectly..I also kept the reverse light linkage on.Everything works and the shifter is worth the work.Good luck.Tony

This bracket would be an excellent product for RJC or Brian to develop to help others avoid this aggravating fabrication as this is a very popular swap.
