guys i found a typhoon in Los angeles that looks well maintained, the problem is after talking to the owner he said that the truck had a salvage title, due to it catching fire. cause of a bad stereo install. he says it runs great, its his daily driver and based on the pictures it looks really nice..what should i do? should i let the fact that it has a salvage title discourage me from buying it.. he said he will take 5k for it. it has 127k miles. and the wiring has been replaced.

i really do need help making my mind up on this one:confused:Please check out the link!
1993 GMC Typhoon

Buy it and drive it til the damn wheels fall off! And feel good that you have one!!!

my 02

does it have any dummy lights on, on the dash? you should be able to take it to an autozone and have them put a machine on it and let you know of any codes that come up. i used to install car audio and if it's not done right there can be a fire started due to bad installation. it's really just up to you just take your time and know that if you buy it for your personal DD then expect to do some work to it. looks nice but you can always dress up a car to sell it knowing it's not worth what your asking. dont buy it because it's a typhoon buy it because you know it's worth the money. i've bought salvaged titled cars before and if anything order a carfax on it and make sure it wasn't one in 12 ft of water or something that would give you hell. i know you can do a carfax on 3 cars for about 30 bucks the last time i checked but that was several years ago. just use your head, just like a nice looking woman, don't use your small head, use your big one on your shoulders.

I'm gonna say it's worth it based on what I see. And for $5k with a salvage title, you can mod the piss out of it and not feel the least bit bad about doing so! :D

If you think you want to buy it to resale its not for you, If you want one cheap that you can have a blast with it sure sounds good to ME !!!!! I would say grab it man, for 5 grand thats dirt cheap even with a salvage title. Just be sure to look at the title and make sure it says salvage repaired on it, NOT just salvage or you won't be able to insure or drive it !

As long as your prepared to drive it and dont care about selling it,but if you start to make it nice and drop money in it,just consider 50% less for the rebuilt title...I got a lucky score for one for 2k in great shape, but they didnt know what they had..

Right now is the time to buy a nice SYTY, just 3 years ago I paid DOUBLE for my truck than what it sells for right now!!! ---

Well I spoke to the owner again and I made him an offer. He said he will let me know by Wednesday. If he accepts, I will go out there wed or Thursday. If I get it, I plan on given it a new paint job and daily drive it and keeping it bone stock.. I don't need another money pit!

Looks good.... I'm jealous... I've had my eye on the one in the "for sale" section on tb.com.

ok update..he took my offer but here is the issue..the title only states salvage... which (need boost) suggested it should say salvage repaired. the truck is currently taged with insurance.. what now? am i going to have a problem tagging it? even tho it currently registered and insured

I thought it had to say salvage rebuilt?

I think you have to have proper repair bills for the area needing fixed, but im not 100%..Im pretty sure it has to be inspected in order to have a rebuilt tittle..Id pass on this deal if I was you..

You might be ok mine is a 92 w/ a salvaged title also. The title states "Salvaged" in the top right hand corner.

I'm not sure what the process is of registring a vehicle in your state that has this, but I would check first. In RI we don't use titles on vehicles over 10 yrs. old, so it wasn't an issue for me.
