I just bought a 1987 GN with 18,026 miles on it. It is bone stock and all original. 1 owner before me, bought from a close friend of the family.. The interior is in immaculate cond. and the paint is in good cond. The engine is clean....I paid $15,000 usa dollars for it. I want to know if this is a good deal?!?!?!?!?!

Sounds decent to me. Paint is just good? With that low miles and price I would expect mint, shiny paint. Otherwise sounds great!

Enjoy

I think it's a pretty good deal. I've heard of low mile GN's going for more than that. Sounds like a nice clean one. Congratulations and welcome!

BTW, there's a dude in GA named Lonnie that picked up a low mile GN a year or 2 ago. He Zaino'd (sp) the original paint and it looks OUTSTANDING! Truly unbelievable for factory paint of the time. You might wanna give it a try.

Sounds good

For that low of a milage figure, I think you done good! Where you located at in Fla? There are a couple of different groups that can help you along. - BB

not sure if i want to modify yet, I just dumped my savings into this car. Someday I'd like to run low 13's for starters....any suggestions on that?

Thanks, Phil

Thanks, Phil

Do what BB said first.
Do a ton of reading/research here and on gnttype.org.
Get a fuel pump, pressure regulator, and a decent street chip.
Then, I believe the single best bang for the buck is a test pipe. Less than $50 from a board member. (My car gained 4 tenths in the 1/8 with that change alone!) Now you're in mid 13's on pump gas and street tires. Add octane and boost and you're right where you want to be.

Where in FL are you? 15k is a good deal. I paid $14,100 for my 34k mile GN with mods.

I have a spare test pipe and a couple spare VDO boost gauges around here if you decide to go that route. When you're ready to start modding it, the locals can help you out quite a bit. You can do stuff to the car that will maximize it's potential without really changing the car. A test pipe, regulator, hot wire kit for the fuel pump, cold air kit and chip will really wake it up. If you want to send me the VIN, I will run a Carfax for you for nothing.

I appreciate the offer for car fax, but I bought the car off of my brother. This car has been in the family since 1988 when he bought it. I live in the Tampa area, and when i finish paying it off, then I will modify it...but not too much.

Mods..

Putting on a new fuel pump is not a "mod", it's pretty much a necessity. The original fuel pump was just barely adequate when it was new, and the wiring kept it from reaching capacity. The stock boost gage is pretty useless, so getting aftermarket gages isn't really a mod, either. And you won't be able to tune it, or to diagnose problems, without a scan tool. After that, you can "pick and choose", as your pocketbook and you interests guide you.
