But being that it's the weekend,... figured it might get more attention here.

Can anyone please give me some advice?

Here's my prob,... got the thrasher 92 chip. I do not want to drop my tank to check and see if the fuel pump has been upgraded.

I do already have a bosch 237 regulator and also green stripe tomco injectors.

I just got done measuring the fuel pressure at the rail while the vac line was off and I have exactly 45 lbs.

Can a stock fuel pump deliver this much??? I REALLY don't want to drop the tank just to find out I have already got an upgraded pump.

Any ways to check??? I just want to pop the new chip in and head to Home Depot for the waste gate mod.

I know it's the weekend,.......any help would be greatly appreciated though.

Thnx

The stock pump will easily deliver 45 psi....it is the regulator that is doing that work anyways. If you have a scan tool then go for it. Just keep a close eye on your KR and your O2 values. I would not suggest you go on a long term boost junkie kick without either upgrading or verifying that your fuel pump has been upgraded. The usual dead giveaway is that most Buick owners will hotwire the pump when they upgrade so look for the hotwire kit.

The stock fuel pump should have no problem with 45 spi at idle. It's 65 psi at WOT it has a problem with. If you can check the FP at WOT you are set.

If you have the stock fuel pump, it will show up right after you hit third gear at WOT. The car will buck like a MF.

thanx for the quick reply,... yea,...I was afraid that was going to be the outcome (not being able to tell with the fuel pumps)

No scan tool either :( I guess I'll just wait a few more days until I can get one ordered and shipped.

thnx again

NOOOO!!!!

well, i wouldnt do that because if you do have the stock pump in there, it wont flow enough fuel for more timing and boost-

you can check to see if you have a upgraded fuel pump-

get a tire valve schrader remover, and remove the schrader at the end of the fuel rail, and put a 3/8ths rubber hose over the end, and turn the pump to stay ON someway of jumping your hotwire kit safely, or getting 12v source to keep the pump pumping for a few minutes... tan with white stripe wire at tank is 12v+ to kick pump on-
use the search feature, and find a link to see how many Gallons Per Hour your pump is supposed to flow...

OR get a 3/8s hose and stick it to the end of your rail- if its a stock pump, the fuel will only push out past the hose end about 1-2 inches when the battery is fully charged-
if its 307 or 340 pump, the fuel will shoot out at least 3 inches past the hose end, if you are using a 5 foot hose!!! if it fills up a one gallon jug in just 2 minutes, you are good to go... if it just slowly flows out, then its stock..

now, you could also get a fuel pressure gauge, and check to see if the fuel pressure drops at WOT, but you would need to buy a hose so you could strap a hose to the windshield!!!

HTH, hope its not too confusing!

I think everyone agrees - the stock fuel pump wasn't really even adequate for the car when it was stock. Let me repeat what was already said, with the engine off (or idling) the stock pump will have no problem providing the pressure you want to the fuel rail, it will be at WOT when the injectors are basically DRAINING the fuel rail that you'll have a problem.

Maybe you can ask the previous owner "what kind of fuel pump does it have?" Unless they know for sure what it is (or that it is adequate) assume it's a stock pump.

One thing you might try is to get in contact with someone in your area that has a fuel pressure (f/p) gauge that you can see from the windshield while you are driving. Strap it on and go for a ride!

Good luck. HTH

No can do with asking the previous owner. I think he was under the impresion that the ONLY thing the car had done to it was the fuel injectors

(reason was that they had clogged or something so they were replaced/repaired with the slightly larger ones)

And,...as it turns out after I dug a bit in preparation of replacing the FPR,.... I already have a Bosch 237

So I dunno,.. just got back with a 1 gallon gas can and some fuel hose. I'll try out the method of filling the 1 gallon can and timing it.

yeah, just take the schrader out ( drivers side has cap over it, near the fuelpressure reg) using a valve stem remover tool-

make sure you have a rag on hand to catch the fuel that may spill-

BE CAREFUL YOU DONT SPARK ANYTHING WHILE DOING THIS PLEASE!!!!

just check for fuel flow, im sure if you did a search you will find the specs on the pump as to how much it is supposed to flow...

but eyeballing it will definitely tell you if you have a weak pump
