I have obtained a complete GN engine assy which is being crated up for shipping. They won't drop it at my house so I need it shipped to a location with a loading dock and forklift or perhaps just the forklift would do the trick to get the crate from the truck to a pickup. Can anyone help me out here? Thanks.

Not really an snwer to your question - but if I may ask
From where to where
Perhaps I can help in another way; i.e. enclosed trailer with dolly & ramp

Got a fork lift in Hillsboro if you feel like driving down.;) Our place is in between Hillsboro and Whitney right on highway 22 so it shouldn't be an issue unless it's raining.

Valdosta, GA to Fort Worth

So here's the thing:
More of a business proposition.

I drive to S. Ga all the time from the ATL
I'm not some U-ship dood - just for routine business
Now - Dallas is a lick, but I go that way.
Usually via a flying machine - but I could figure out some other reasons to take the truck.

I've hauled engines and trannies (transmissions that is) many times in my enclosed trailer.
On a special built wooden engine cradle / pallet, on a movers dolly, then padded and strapped down all proper like.

That said - 2 issues come to mind.
How much to deliver and how soon?
I'm guessing the shipping via common carrier isn't that much - it's the special handling they charge you for.

Unless you have already made all the arrangements and simply need to find a commercial address. (Like your original question)
That should be easy enough to do if you know any DFW TR guys - surely some one has a commercial address with the proper amenities.

You sure about that forklift required business?
At my company, it's often that clients insist we ship via carrier with liftgate.
Then all you need to have is a cherry picker and a movers dolly. (Or pallet with casters)

Charlie's offer sounds like it might be the way to go.
Deliver to his place, then take the truck down to grab it.

I use the local NAPA store. He has a lift truck. I buy a lot of "stuff" there.
Maybe you could do the same thing??

Or, just goto the terminal, and they'll set it in your truck.

I have a guy in Dallas with a fork lift. Right by DFW airport. Its a construction company with plenty of room to throw stuff around. The shop forman is an old school Turbo Buick guy. In fact the dude that got me into it. Let me know.

why don't you have the shipping company just hold it at their location and pick it up there? that's what I've done with R&L carriers... good thing is they are open almost 24hrs.

Guys, thank for all the information and your willingness to help. Obviously I've never dealt with this before. I'll check on picking it up at the shipper location. If I can't work that out, I think notacarlo's connection may be a good solution. I'll check back after Christmas. Thank you all and Merry Christmas!

I'll keep an eye on this thread.

notacarlo,

Now that the holidays and a half dozen other projects are completed I'm just about ready to tell them to ship that engine. I've got a business trip next week but after that the schedule opens up. Hopefully this nutty weather calms down as well.

PM me Warped and ill let the guys know.

Disregard the second PM. I just talked to the shipper and they have what they need. Looks like it will go out tomorrow and be here Monday. I have left a voice mail message for Chris on his cell. Thanks.

Notacarlo,

Picked up the engine from Chris. Great guy. Thank you to both of you. Couldn't have done it without you. I'll drop it in as soon as it warms up a bit more.

Glad everything worked out! Chris is the evil man that hot me hooked on TR's 25 years ago.
Glad we could help out.
