Moved here (DFW area) from east coast a few yrs ago and can't wait to get back to the east coast. You can buy a really nice house here for much cheaper than you could there but that's about it. I think that's because it is so much less desirable a place to live. Don't really have 4 full seasons it's just really hot then it turns cold leaves fall off and then hot again. Crazy windy and monsoon rainstorms. No state income tax, but you really pay for it vs there in sales tax on vehicles and other items. 6.25% vs 3% on vehicles. 8.25% on other items I believe. I buy a lot of vehicles so it hurts. I live out in the f**in country so basic luxury items like cable tv and high speed internet which plentiful there are non-existent. Lots of rednecks and conservatives too, but I am one so I feel right at home there :). Fairly large hispanic and african american population where I am as well. I'm sure there are more desirable places to live within the state, but I just see a lot of wide open nothing where I am. Good luck....but if I were you I would stay put.

My Mom lives in Houston, same with my cousin. I have been there about 3 times in the past few years.

I enjoyed it. Reminds me a lot of Phoenix, AZ ( which is where I grew up ).

I now live in STL, MO ... and I went to Houston in Feb a couple years ago. It was 35 in STL and 75 in Houston (which I loved ) ---

and there is a local group of guys that i haven't caught up to yet, lone star buick club. they meet up about 1 time a month and are freindly from what i heard.
Where ya been hiding?

Texas is getting way too overcrowded, I'd stay there where it rains all the time and the only thing people want to do is work..that's why there is all of those tech companies based there :) Then you have the logging companies too, there's a ton of huge trees there, nothing like that here...got snow skiing on Mt. Hood just an hour or two from ya..nothing like that here...oh and the Columbia River, beautiful white water rafting..why would anyone want to come to Texas??

There ya go, something to think about and for those that think Washington State has nothing to offer :)

But Texas does have some beautiful country...big cities are just like all other big cities. And jobs are not that plentiful here at the current time. And that no income tax, you just get raped on property taxes each year for your home and sales taxes..it all evens up. Corporations get away with very little taxes here, they get their property taxes waived to locate here and just make the residents pick up the slack, Washington has a much better idea.

Oh, and forget about wacko Bush, the city of Ft. Worth is considering expanding health care coverage for its employees to cover sex change operations!! How many other states/cities do you know that are considering that...this is supposed to be the city "Where the West begins" not "where men become women" :D

Always check the "Texas" section of this board, and there is also an email distro you can sign up for on the Lone Star Performance Buick Club Online website All the locals are on that distro. Pics of past events can be found on the lspbc website also so you can see what kinds of rides everyone has, check the car shows archives.
Just missed a nice cruise down to the hill country we did 2 weeks ago and a free 3 hours of all the racing you could do at Speedzone. Next event is a race make up day on Sunday Nov. 29th at Redline Raceway which is east of Dallas, about a 90 mile haul for me on the NW side of FTW, but I plan to go, there is usually 10-15 of us there. Where in FTW are you?

I'm right down hwy199 in Lake Worth, there another guy with a GN always parked at a pool hall in Samsom Park, just haven't seen it there when I had time to stop, looked like a nice car.
Takin' my wife to Billy Bob's this saturday for some concert...probably just dropping her off unless she doesn't find someone to use her other ticket...someone I don't care to see :)

You guys are talking about my old stomping grounds. Maybe we should set up some sort of christmas party with everyone a little more south like Burleson? SPJST is fairly large and out of the way.

:) Already planned, LSPBC Christmas party is Dec. 5th in Forney, need to get on that email distro for the details though, thats where it would be determined who is bringing what food and etc...and beer...don't want Dave to get pulled over again on a beer run and think Victor was his girlfriend again :D

darn you guys are close

i grew up by sampson park, swear i grew up on Dr pepper slushes from bob and freds before they sold out. They also had some of the best burgers on this side of town. i definately need to catch up with that buick club. alot of good contacts there i'm sure. So hope to catch up with you guys soon, as for me still live in northside of fort worth by meacham field. so close the planes do touch and go off my roof.

Have you guys ever tried the tamalli factory on Hemphill? That's one of the cheapest places to eat and the food's good as well. Suprising that they only make tamalies and nothing else but it's been there for over 30 years.

homemade are the best

i've been by there, never had one but heard they are good. honestly the best ones are the ones that are home made. most places are tight with the meat, not hard to make but i'd rather have family make them.

You're right about that. We've got a local here that sells them on the side of the road on Saturdays. A dozen for $7 and they're packed with meat. I stop and get them for luch/dinner sometimes. Add a little picante and you won't get a better dinner.

Ill be there Soon

Ill be in Big Texas soon... I CANT STAND Washington anymore... as soon as Im done with autobody and my associates degree... Im Outro of Washington... I NEED to move somewhere warm and a fresh start on my own wouldnt be bad.:D:D

I'd stay where you are for a little time after you get out. This way you can save some money to help you with the move. I moved from TN back to TX 4.5 years ago and it was almost 2K and I did it myself. It aint cheap to move.

That is an inexpensive move. It cost me more then that to move our stuff over to DFW from Midland earlier this year.
