I started out drilling the oil return holes in the valley of my new satge 1. The main reason in did this was to get all the sand out of the casting and ended up polishing the whole valley. I could have painted it with epoxy but once i started i couldnt stop. At least it will help oil return LOL I think it was worth another .0000001 HP for over 8 hrs of work:rolleyes:

Holy CRAP!!!! I can see myself!!!!

That is a work of art...You should frame it and mount it on the wall!!!

geno! looks nice !! how many hours did that take you and what did u do it with ? thanks!

btw - pics are kinda big, maybe shrink them a little for the dial-up users so they can see your beautiful work as well. NICE !!

I used a bee hive sander, drum sander,1" disk sander,1" scotch brite pads, ball rotory file. It took me 8hrs to do and im still not done. Now i have to do the crank case:D I had to make some special long shanked ball rotory files to reach and raidius out the oil passages.Preping a block takes as long as you want to spend. I know the picture are big but you can see the detail better. SORRY
I put a link to a smaller picture but the free picture host is slowww

Nice work. That's exactly what I had in mind for my new engine.Good way to remove rust too.Be sure to check all your bore alignments after you're done[cam,main,etc.].That type of work can shift things slightly.Have fun.I think you'll find your efforts well worth it.

I really think on a new block heat cylcles ,20lbs lauches and harmonics do more moving the dimentions around:) Never the less i planed on swishing the bores and mains:cool:

Good man.Polishing the surface of an elaborate casting like that can cause dimensional shifts you won't realize. You might get lucky, but don't bet on it.Also make sure you radius[love that word] the drainback holes in the lifter valley.Later.

Okay hotshot. Now you've got everybody oohing and ahing, let's see you do the crank case area. That's the money shot. We'll be waiting.

I already started and its not easy. You can see the brass tube i had to put in the oil pickup passage. I had to clear it because im using a 3.590 crank. I used a stepped reamer with a .625 pilot and got a piece of brass tube from the hobby shop. The step in the reamer gives a good seal when the tube bottoms out. I also used cylinder loctite. Sense its a stage 1 block it could have drilled it for a forward mounted pickup. But i didnt see the need because its only going to be a 2 bolt steel center mains. If you make it a 4 bolt cap you have to delete the rear oil pickup and use the front if you want to keep it wet sump.

oops looks llike you dont have to waait long radius:eek: :D

shawn

geno's stage parts palace .............been there done that

i have done that to all my race engines, i did it on my first street motor, i hate pain in the lifter valley, now it is the standard, you should see the faces i get when i pull and intake, the sinside of the engine is polished brighter than my valve covers, call me silly

Now there's the money shot. That'll make your biggest difference to windage.Nice work Amigo.
Grant, you're silly.:D :D :D :D

I really dont care about the windage as much as the sand pockets and stress risers...A couple more hours and i will be done..

Warning large slow picture.

:D ;) :) :) :)

You should care about windage. That'll take out your bottom end as fast as anything I can think of.Can you say 10% air and 90% oil running through your engine?Sure you can.:D

Im sure it will be fine:) I never did one bit of this work to my stock block and it never had a bearings failure from foamed up oil. . The foaming of the oil really comes into play with a roundy round cars that runs at high rpm for a long time:) Or a motor with to much rod, main, lifter, cam bearing clearances and cycles the oil alot faster that it should. As far as the performance gains i would have left it alone and turned the boost up if i did it for that reason:cool: Besides Buick V6 blocks are a long pan skirt block and ive never heard of anybody having a bearing failure from this before;) :D :) :) Now quit picking on me and get that car of yours fixed:) I hope when we meet at BG we dont start rolling around on the ground in the pits He He He LOL;) :D

How do they know whether the bearings failed from windage or not? Most guys just know they failed.Any efforts to keep the air from mixing with the oil will definately help the oil wedge in the bearings,9 seconds or not.
Now give me a hug,big guy.;)
