the time has come where i need to start looking for the perfect place to live...

we all know this place exists, bikini girls with 2 fists full of beer would be nice, but not what im looking for-

right now its 99 degrees out and humid as heck, its going to be like this for another week or so- im getting tired of working like a dog and need a change in my life, a year from now i would love to be living somewhere else with a nicer climate

so my question is where is the ultimate place to live?

not to hot, not to cold, not to boring, not to overpopulated, low crime rate, low tax rate?

basically im asking where you guys would like to live if you could move anywhere?

ive been talking of doing this way to long, i think this kansas boy needs to enjoy life somewhere else other than the kansas killer humidity and snot freezing winters!!!

i would appreciate any info you guys want to share...

and yes i would move out of the states

I would love to live in CO. I think it's got a high cost of living vs. most of the U.S., but I could be wrong. Sounds like a great state with a lot to offer.

Every place is going to have it's draw backs. The best all around climates ALWAYS have the highest cost of living. Living in the midwest is CHEAP cheap cheap.

I was born out in AZ and always wanted to move back, I loved the Desert UNTIL I visited the east coast during the fall a few years back...OH MY GOD...it's the most beautiful place in the states as far as I'm concerned (with any population...I was in maryland & west virginia areas)

When my kids grow up. I'm outta here and out there...
Midwest is Great for raising kids though.

Everything is a trade off....

The location with the best weather may not be the best (or even a very good) place to make a living, or, have activities that interest you.

The best weather I know of is Southern California....You may not want to live there though. You prolly can't afford to live there (I can't).

Hawaii, Costa Rica or New Zealand are places I've heard good things about. One friend said it was like going back to the 50's when he visited New Zealand. But, they have a lot of volcanos and earthquakes there. Costa Rica has a nice climate, low cost of living and a stable govt. Hawaii IS paradise, but has a high cost of living.

Subscribe to the magazine called _WHERE TO RETIRE_ www.wheretoretire.com

They showcase locations around the USA, Mexico, and Central America where Americans have found Shangra La. They are bound to spotlight a place you'd like to check out. Be careful though, you'll miss your friends and family if you get too far away for very long (27 years in the military taught me that.)

Good luck
:)

Snot freezing winters....

That reminds me of a Physician I worked with in Alaska. He ran about every day for exercise....And, froze the very tip of his P__is during a run in sub zero weather :(

There is a down side to every location :)

Come to the land of milk and honey Bryan. You know you want to, gayboy! :D

The best place I've ever visited where I'd like to live is the Hawaiian island of Kauai. Totally, utter, paradise. But, prepare to live on the edge of poverty, cuz there aren't any good paying jobs for gearheads or any other non real-estate tycoon-types.

Second place all time--Northern California. My best friend lives an hour north of SF in the wine country. That place is incredible. Aside from rain in the spring, the weather is nearly ideal. But talk about expensive! Sheesh. House like what you live in now cost $400k! No foolin.

I liked Tucson AZ a LOT! Yeah, it's not, but no humidity. Nice town.

The big island is not so populated......there is a big cattle ranch even. $ a little easier but still high to us mainlanders.

I"ve heard bad things (mainly on this board) about AZ taxes but I think Flagstaff would be perfect. They have seasons and you are only a 1 1/2 hour or so drive to the desert floor in the winter, sorta a SOCA type thing in reverse.

Your car would be a little slower at 5000 feet, but man I here you on the humidity.....Africa hot in MI this last week.

As far as climate, I'd love to find somewhere that the temp is between 50-90 year round. I just hate cold weather anymore.
And living in northern Illinois just isn't for me...summers are hot and humid (it was 100* today) and winters are just too cold for me. The think the older I get the more this weather stuff really wears on me. :(

For climate, NW Oregon isn't bad. Rarely freezes, Rarely goes above 100 degrees. No sales tax. Woodburn dragstrip. Oregon coast is awesome scenery. Might be something to look into.

Of the places I've been I would say Colorado ranks up there. We average 300 sunny days a year yet still have seasons. It's been hot for the last week but it's not humid and it doesn't last near as long. The economy here was booming up until the last couple of years. It's slowed down but there are still jobs out there. Since this is a turbo regal board your car will not run as good as you are used to up here that's for sure. I grew up in Kansas City and would never move back.

Well, being from MD, I feel proud somebody mentioned my back yard. :) It is very beautiful, especially in fall and nice landscape, but I have to tell the truth.

Maryland summers are hotter than Hates, and more humid than a cup of coffee, while the winters have been known to be real nasty as well. Many times the winter storms are hit or miss, but a Nor' Easter can be a lot of fun.

I'm not a big fan of extreme cold, but I still endure MD winters. Cost of living's not too bad, but taxes for retirees can be a bit on the high side.

As for living in Germany. Here in northern Germany.. FORGET IT!! Taxes through the roof... rain and miserable weather most of the time plus a million other problems with moving to a foreign country. Plus you need to find a job which isn't easy for a US citizen.

I have to agree, I like Colorado, but I'm an outdoors type and really appreciate the landscape there. I've heard Hawaii has high costs of living.

As for Florida... a lot of times people move there, live for about 5-10 years then move out of Florida because they actually get depressed over the lack of seasonal change. You have summer, then the next three beautiful seasons until the next summer.

In short, that's a tall order to find "the perfect place". Good luck.
