i have the 84 module with an adapter for the 87 coil well i think my mod is bad and is the root of my miss problem do i need anything special or can i just get an 87 module and bolt it in

I just did this conversion last week. If you are still running the 84 harness, then you have 2 options: 1 being that you can buy the wireing adapter from caspers or 2 you can get the instructions off of gnttype.org to cut and splice the current harness. I chose to do the second and it took me about 1.5 hours to do it. The key to it is you have to know what you are doing to cut and splice and you MUST label the wires!!!!! I had the mounting bracket from caspers allready and if you don't choose to use it, you have to make a bracket to mount it as well. The caspers adapter harness works well from what i have heard, but it wansn't worth the $60 or so when i could do the same for free. Another tip is to extend all the wires approx 3-4in as the stock harness doesn't leave much slack. Hope this helps and if you have any other questions feel free to ask. I think the caspers method is easier and you really need to make sure you get a gm ignition module and not an after market one. The after market ignition modules don't work as well and tend to fail. Again My two cents.

If you can't find a 84/85 module, I happen to have a conversion kit to a 86/87 style module complete with the metal mounting bracket. It was included in a bulk parts purchase I made a few years ago. I don't have a hot air car so I have no use for it and more importantly I CANNOT GUARANTEE IT WORKS because I am unable to test it. But if you want to try it I'll send it out to you. Here is a pic of what I have:
