Hey guys,

Just wandering where the hell the ignition switch is on an 87 buick grand national? Is it the same as an 87 T? Also my car won't start at all new battery when you turn the key to start it absouletly nothing at all doesn't even try to turn over? Could this be the ignition switch or the starter? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Lights will light up on the dash but that's it? Nothing else  jretrodude@aol.com pics would be nice too of where it is located can't find anything on google?

look at the nutral safty switch located at the bottom of the steering colum. may be either white or black. see if it will start in nutral.

seems that its out of adjustment when you adjust it put the selector in nutral, loosen and it should fall into the nutral groove, then tighten and it should start in park. if not unplug it and look for burnt terminals.

don't forget to check those fuseable links attached to the starter post. When they burn open, it won't allow the starter to turn over.

Thanks guys believe it's the starter

Hello,

Had a friend come over the other day and had him turn the ignition while I was hitting the solenoid and starter with a hammer and it wanted to turn over but didn't got some progress out of it but still no start? Replaced ignition switch and put a fresh brand new battery in it and still does the same thing? Going to have to pull the starter and replace I guess? Also do I need to remove the downpipe? I believe it's in the way when you take the starter down? Thanks for all the input guys. :) jretrodude

No start

Look at the bulk connector under the fuse panel where it meets the fire wall.
You have to loosen a few screws there is one screw in the middle of the connector that can be a pain in the ass.
My car had some corrosion there took me three days to trace it. The LARGE tan wire shorted out. Also test the main purple wire from the igntion to the starter. Test for power before and after the fuse box. If no power you have a short at the fusable links or the bulk connector. Good luck...
