I know there are few people that enjoy reading books on here and I am one of them. With all the books I have read I always wondered if I had it in me to actually write one. Well, I did! As of last weekend I got my book published as an ebook and I am thrilled that I got it done. My goal was to write a "normal" length paperback which I calculated to be about 300 pages and I succeeded.

It's an action-adventure similar to the Indiana Jones movies which I love and the good thing about it being done is that it will always be out there in the world, so maybe in 20 years I'll actually sell one. =D

It's called "Legacy if a King"

Synopsis:
When our hero is hired by a large corporation to survey an area for minerals he has no idea that the job is actually a setup by a beautiful woman willing to do anything to hire him for his well known skills of survival. After a drunken business meeting with her at the local bar, he wakes up the next morning with memories of accepting her job proposal. But once she flies him out to the base camp, she confesses that she hired him to find something she determined as unusual in some aerial scans that she possess. Stranded, with no way to leave he continues with the job which soon becomes deadly when the two of them get separated from the convoy and must survive on their own in a land that only knows how to deal out death.
This swashbuckling action adventure takes place in an ancient and unique world that requires skills beyond their own in order to survive the jungles and caves of this foreign land. Can they retrieve the ancient relic that could turn the archaeology world upside-down, and whose life will be claimed trying? This is what they're about to find out.

Congrats on doing that. I always wanted to write a screenplay for a comedy based on a nursing home. Been in the business for 26 years and have seen some pretty funny stuff and sad too.

That's pretty cool....being an author and getting your book published....congratulations!!! That's a pretty big deal. That's really nice.

Mark....??? You worked in a nursing home for 26 years??? Huh?

Thanks Guys!
I do so much reading I started believing that I could write something that was no worse that some of the books I had read so I gave it a shot. It feels pretty good to accomplish something like this.

Mark, you should start writing things down even if it's only once a year. It feels great to do it!

Day job! Director of Maintenance. 5 years in the first place I worked at and 21 years at the present place. Unfortunately, the state is closing down our place as well as 3 others as we are not making $$$$. http://www.yaledailynews.com/news/2011/mar/24/nursing-homes-in-trouble/ Lots of controversies over the years including a CEO that raped the place of Medicaid $$$$$ back in 2007. Thought he could use that money to start a country music label in Nashville! Used money that was for fire sprinkler systems, got a slap on the wrist sentence too! http://www.bizjournals.com/nashville/stories/2010/04/19/daily16.html We never recovered from that.

Need a working title for my screenplay, any ideas????

Doing an electronic book (ebook) is easy and it's all free, no cost out of my pocket. You write it then simply upload it with cover art, although you don't need the cover art. I did mine myself.

Where you upload it is the question and from all the research I did Smashwords, which is where I uploaded mine (Legacy of a King), is a "distribution hub" for ebooks and they distribute to ALL the major ebook outlets and eReaders like Barnes and Nobel, Amazon, Sony, etc for FREE, in fact I believe they just purchased the Amazon.com ebook side of Amazon.
The author maintains ALL the rights to their book so they can upload it to any site they want. Smashwords get paid by taking a small percentage (around 15% but it does vary) of whatever price you ask for your book when you sell a copy. For instance I'm asking $3.99 for mine and when I sold one I got a tad over $3.00. They want you to succeed otherwise they don't make any money so they they have a really good network of distribution.

I have the first 20% of my book available for FREE to download so people can read it and if they like it then they can purchase the rest of it. If they're not interested then there's no cost to the reader or to myself. So if anyone is curious about my book or how Smashwords works with an eReader feel free to download the first portion of my book. You don't even need to charge $$ for your book at all. There are a BUNCH of free books up there that seem to be really good. It's entirely up to what the author wants to do.

I feel this is the best time to get it up there b/c ebooks are just now getting really popular with the new eReaders that are coming out and there aren't that many ebooks available (compared to paperbacks), so mine is up there during the early stages of ebook reading and it will be up there forever unless I take it down.

If anyone feels like writing a book, DO IT!

Very Cool! What's a really interesting coincidence is I just found out I won an Amazon Kindle at a trade show I went to in Boston.

You can count on me checking into you book as soon as I get it.

KEWL! Let me know what you think about it.

I will have to give that a read. I also love Indiana Jones type adventures. I have read all of the Jones paperbacks.

Congrats!

Just received my Kindle and purchased your book last night, so I'll be reading it over the weekend.
