i took the gn out on the highway for the first time today, and i got some pretty cool reactions from a few people.

after getting it inspected i pulled out and stopped at a light. the guy that pulls up next to me rolls his window down and informs me that i dont have any plates, and compliments me on the car(i already new it didnt have plates). i tell him that i was headed to get the plates at the momment and i hopped i could make it there in time. he said "with that car you should be able to make it there and back!

next was a mid 90's mustang that clearly recognized the buick and was reving and acting like an idiot. i am babying the buick for break in purposes and there was way too much traffic to put him in his place, so i just let him rev.i dont understand why he would pick a fight with a buick. i dont think there is a buick in the area that runs slower than low 13s.

the final person was a leander police dept. i was almost home when i see the lights behind. so i pull over and shut the car off. the officer walks up on the passenger side where my dad is sitting for some reason, and informs me that i dont have any plates, i explain that the car is from out of state and i just finished rebuilding it. i had just got it inspected, and couldnt get the plates because we were 2 minutes late. he walks off with my licsence after checking to make sure the title that i handed him matched the vin on the car. when he comes back he asks my dad if he was sure he wanted to let a teen drive a car like this (half jokingly), and my dad assured him that i was a safe driver.

well, i know it isnt much, but i thought it was pretty cool to get so much attention the first time i take the car out. it was pretty cool. although, i could due without the attention of the locall law enforcement!

You can drive a car with no plates in TX?

Cool.

Cops woulda shot me here in CT if I tried that. :D

i basically have no choice but to drive it without plates. i cant get plates untill it has been inspected. it must be driven in order to get it inspected. if i didnt have the green sheet and reciept from that dat when i had it inspected, i know i would have gotten a ticket.

reminds me of the time i was on my way to the DMV to get a out of state title/car "looked" at here in KANSAS i think it was my 87 sage green regal

i passed a cop running radar just 2 blocks away from the highway patrol inspection place, and the cop sees that my tag is 2 months out of date:rolleyes:

so the SOB has the balls to see that im pulling into the FRIGGIN LINE of the DMV inspection HUT, and turns on his lights behind me and pulls me over while im pulling into the the DMV inspection HUT!!!!!!!....

c'mon what a rookie mistake right? ive obviously got ALLLLLLL the most important paperwork at my fingertips to show the DMV, (where im really headed to) and he asks me for my liscense and registration, "license and registration son" im in the damn line to get inspected!!!!!!!

im literally 10 feet from getting my car inspected, and ole smokey is pulling this one out of his hat!

ive got a few cop friends so i decided to mess with the guy and see what he would do..

SOB walks up and starts to say "licen"..... i whip out the wad of paperwork and flip it out the window in my hand and dont even give him the chance to say his first word of the sentence....

guy looks at me like im reading his mind or something, he couldnt believe i was that quick on the draw to have every piece of paperwork within 1/2 second reach of him walking up

guy must not have realized i acutally pulled into the DMV lot ??

my first words were "here ya go, take a guess where im headed" and even included my out of state TITLE for which the entire reason i was in the parking lot.

guy tells me he has to run my name and see if i have any out standing warrants

he comes back and says " well since you got all your paperwork, you "seem" to know what your doing"

no ticket GO FIGURE, i was within spittin distance of getting the inspection!

i look at him, laugh, and wished i had enough time to ask him for his license and registration:D

LOL

It don't work that way up here in CT.

Don't try it either. ;)

You bring all the paperwork to the DMV in a plated car :D.

Then they issue you temp. registration to get inspections etc.

Then you go back stand in line again and get real plates.

After you get the cardboard one you can drive your car.

Or else they just shoot ya. ;)

Actually they tow the car usually.

congrats on the 1 year buildup to get it on the road and in nice condition. I still need some pics how it turned out.

Wish I was 18 with a TurboBuick back in the day. TE-44 and all :).

Just the opposite here. While I hate to reinforce some of the negative stereotypes of Mississippi, some of the CRAP allowed on public roads here would amaze you!! No tags, no lights, no problem!

What really galls me is, after paying over $1600 for tags on my truck and the wife's, I have a neighbor who has three vehicles in his driveway with Alabama plates. He's lived here for 3 years and still gets away with that crap. Those tags are about $30 each.

Just venting. Seems like CT is at the extreme other end of how they handle license plates.

haha
i lived in alabama for 8 years....its the same way:p
you could get pulled over and tell the cop that you just got the car 2 years ago and haven't had the time to get a tag yet and not get a ticket:p
probably the funniest thing is seeing a car with no lights, no hood, and a trash bag windows:p

I don't know about all that......

I've been driving around with WAY expired tags for a while now. They expired Dec 29th, 2002. They are Michigan plates, however, but the CT cops haven't said anything.

And before anyone accuses me of being white trash for having expired tags.... I renewed them in 2003, and they got lost in the mail. After battleing it out with the Michigan Secretary of State for a long time, I just gave up. Now I have the 2004 tags, but I'm not putting them on. Why? For the same reason Cal Ripken played all those games, it's just plain wrong to break a streak.
